  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet X Unboxing video

was that metal plate when u first opened the scarlet a back plate? i/e a plate that covers the redmote connection when no redmote attached?

Beautiful stuff. Congratulations, Jim!

That plate looks like it might be about the right size to cover where the lens mount is if you do not have a lens mount attached. Is that what it is by any chance?

The metal plate had a focal plane mark on it, so I am assuming it goes where the side ssd module goes should that get relocated to an IO module.

Thanks Jim,
This was the most thorough unboxing I've seen. I really appreciate that.

Thanks guys- yes the plate covers the area that the SSD is currently located. I was over at Wooden Camera today and Ryan was nice enough to help me assemble the Scarlet and shoot a few things. I'm missing the side handle- back ordered as everyone knows.
I bought a cool chees plate that sits on top of the camera. It has a slew of holes so you can put just about anything on there.

Thanks for sharing the love. :-)

The best Scarlet unboxing video I've seen so far !

Jim I assume you are getting the side handle too? You can't control the camera without it when your using the Bomb EVF. I don't' think you can have both the bomb and the lcd on at the same time. so you need to side handle for the function controls.

Hey Chris,

Yes I have the Side Handle ordered. But my Bomb Squad Rep told me it would be 4 to 5 weeks. I am aware that you can't run both the Bomb EVF and 5.0 LCD at the same time...kinda sucks there is only one port. But I will still use both for different scenarios so I guess until someone designs a breakout cable that will handle both I'll be doing a lot of plugging and unplugging. If anyone has a work around I'd love to hear it. I had a friends Epic Side Handle on my Scarlet and it's pretty cool. It gives the camera a DSLR feel and makes it feel really good for hand held work. The controls have a thumb wheel that allows you to access the cameras menu and works well with the LCD so you can see what you are changing. The LCD is cool to and very accessible for camera menus but it's nice to have both options just wish they had a 7" touch available- 5" is kinda small. Not sure yet when I'll spring for the REDMOTE but it's definitely on the list as I own a JIB and I will need to be able to control the camera remotely.

Hey Chris- Awesome work- especially liked the rainy alley shots on your demo reel. Did you do all that on raw files? I'll admit I'm fairly new to working with Raw files- other than my Nikon D700 still footage.
I'm excited to start experimenting!
