Hey guys!

Last night I decided to recreate a test many of you have seen, but instead of with Leo and the Red One MX, I did it with my friend and the Scarlet-X.

I will upload a clip soon, but here is a screen grab to get you (hopefully) excited!

Footage and r3d's to come!

very impressive! I love the way the smoke augments your actor's mustache in the second shot :-)

Yes I did. Shot at 1600 ISO, t2.9 with the Red 18-85.

I absolutely love that lens!

Looks great, Michael.

I think our biggest problem with this test, was lighting for 1600 iso. Everything was just sooo bright.

Many pieces of diffusion and flags were involved to get it just right.

Haha, michael....... that idea was copyrighted (the lighting the cigar shot) lol

Good job, looks really nice

Can't wait for the motion R3D's

Not sure if it's the JPEG compression or if it's really noisy. Can't wait for the R3D.

I agreed with your assessment yesterday of the noisiness of the night shot in LA; this I think is noticeably cleaner, though. Or maybe it's just my lying eyes. I think it's very promising though.

Do 1600iso with a 5D on a 2.8/2.6 lens...it will be noisy as hell...and it will be ugly noise as well. Do it with the F3, (I've used the f3 a bunch in lowlight) it will still have noise, it's just what is the characteristic of the noise is...crazy chroma digital noise like the 5D or filmic almost organic grain like an F3.

I'd say, so far from what I'm seeing the noise in the Scarlet has great characteristics.

People who complain about noise, not referring to anyone in this thread, are somewhat silly, in my opinion.

I don't find much need to shoot at 1600 ISO, or 2000 ISO. I would probably never max beyond 800 or 1000.

Noise is in every digital camera, and you are going to get it if you,

Underexpose and not have enough light.

I knew I was going to get noise in this. That was the whole point. I wanted to see how far I could push it before it became unbearable noise, and from what im seeing in RCX and other lowlight tests from other Scarlet owners, the camera handles very very well and gives it an organic feel.

If the Red was an absolute noiseless camera, it would be beyond amazing. :)

I shot an entire night scene for a short film at 2500 ISO on the Red One MX and I was extremely happy with the low noise level. I expect Scarlet to be just as good if not better!
