Just emailed RED and a rep told me that for new potential customers, expect the wait to be a couple of months. However when I called RED's headquarters, a sales rep told me that there was no estimation and that a two month waiting period is both "inaccurate and accurate".

Why they have to be so hard assed about giving estimations, i don't know. Some are more inclined in helping out customers more so than others I guess.

They probably don't know themselves if they are relying on suppliers like if coming from China or Japan for the major components and remember its close to X-mas. Some manufacturing companies may be shutting down for X-mas holidays or after for a week or two. So, that can cause completely shut down of a production line for RED.

Seriously, you need to just be happy and wait. Sorry, life is like that.

A waiting period for what? Scarlets? Modules? Accs?

My rep didn't know either, saying there are lots of factors. Which I understand. It's a growing pain of them getting bigger. It's not as bad as some have had to wait but having to wait 3 years for a Scarlet...all summer til Nov 3rd, and now not even knowing when we'll get cameras is a good way to learn patience I suppose.

But the BS Reps do all they can. I've heard nothing but good things about all of them. Mine is helpful, and I respect they can only share what they know, but it is a curious thing spending 15 grand in RED products to not get answers. Just gotta have faith and hopefully not to long of a wait.

It may or may not be true...Feb is their whole aim to get out of backorder on a lot of their stuff so assuming that...

I doubt they'll ever be out of backorder though on cameras...dunno how long the R1 was in backorder for or even if it was but August '09 for example it was in stock whilst now, back to backorder

If you can wait...if you have the money ready...if Scarlet is your camera that you want...jump for it. That's really all its down to. If your itching for a camera now and your shopping around for something as immediately available as possible...

Perhaps the C300, Arri Alexa and so forth are more likely choices, even a 5DM2.

It's really down to how much your desire, want, need for the Scarlet is. If you don't put the money down and in feb their again saying 2 months waiting...you may have only been say 1 month away in feb instead of 2 months if you deposited now. Once again, choices and all.

Patience though is always required here. Don't expect to set shoot dates but REDs estimates, always go worst case scenario. If they say May you say August/September...that way disappointment is less and your also more likely to be even happier if it ships before what you thought it would.

I did ask my rep for my order and wasn't able to say if it was possible before christmas or wasnt...lots of things flying around...Jarred said end of the week there maybe another backorder update so gauge off that if they offer up whats going on with the Scarlet situation

This same thread has happened again, and again, and again.

Yes, you "need" this camera and you "need" to know when you're gonna get it, everyone else be damned. But the fact is, every single person that has ordered one feels exactly the same way, for exactly the same legitimacy of reasons. Since all sorts of things can impact the supply chain of the roughly 10,000 parts that go into a Scarlet order, no, they are not going to give you an estimate, only to have it be wrong, and to disappoint you further, when the only reason they would give you an estimate is to not-disappoint you now.

It's robbing Peter to pay Paul in an emotional sense, and everyone is in the same boat, and this topic has been beat deader than a 300 year old horse.

I read on the Arri forum that the wait on an Alexa was something like 5 months.

I imagine the year end price cut off will also incite a flood of last minute orders which may yet extend delivery estimates.

The only way for anyone to accurately (to some extent, still speculation) gauge when they may or may not receive their Scarlet is to wait till January and see how many Scarlets of their mount go out between Jan 1st to the end of Jan. Then work out what was the last SO on the last day of Jan and calculate from there + or - your worst and best case scenario thoughts.

Everyone will always be guessing. The SO thread is great for the above IF everyone clocks off as they get the cameras. Highly doubt it but its the only way for an individual to figure REDs supply rate from the outside.

Hi guys,

I was told by my rep first week of January at the latest for the Scarlet and the touch screen and handle. According to him, they are getting deliveries at a faster rate from suppliers, production has been seriously ramped. So I suggest we should just exercise some patience here and have a bit of faith in the system. I get the feeling these guys are working very hard to come out of backorder. I am obviously eager to get the camera too as I have some jobs coming in January where the camera would be just perfect.

Apparently you haven't been around RED for long, because they do not like to give out a whole lot of estimations... There has been, lets say some trouble in the past about that, lol. But here's the deal though. They give out estimations because they want to please you the customer, who just have to know, or else. But when stuff goes wrong, with shipping or economical (Japanese Earthquake) then those same people get all uptight because they were "lied" to. If you want to buy into the best camera line in the world, then just do it, and don't make a hundred posts about how you just can't wait, or whatever. Save those for Facebook...

I paid a $1,000 deposit and waited two years for my first RED ONE.

Then I paid a $5,000 deposit and waited over a year for EPIC-X.

Then I paid $58,000 and waited two months for my EPIC-M.

I just paid a $975 deposit for a SCARLET. I imagine mine will be delivered in February sometime. All I can say is, RED is performing miracles in terms of getting these cameras out the door, considering they are a small operation trying to meet an unprecedented demand.

SCARLET wannabes, quit yer bitchin and get in line.

so sick of these whiny, entitled posts.

you have choices here - 2 of them.

you can pay your money and get in line with everybody else and have your technology sooner but on a schedule which isn't precise or exacting.

or you can wait until RED manufacturing systems are developed to a point where they have caught up with pent-up demand for these cameras and can give you an accurate delivery schedule. they will get there in a matter of months. but they aren't there, right now.

that is your choice. pick one.

Why back in my day they would beat you twice before breakfast and once after noon! They only beat you once a day now so quit your whining!

In all seriousness... who wants to be the one to dig through Meryem's old posts and find some now hypocritical bitching? :D

true, true....

All depends when you ordered. I'm border line in the first Hour of ordering (8.40pm Nov. 3rd) but I'm thinking it'll ship first week of January receive camera by Mid-January. If I can get if before/after Christmas that would be a blessing. But it being the Holidays and what-not I'm not counting on it.

I check the List before I go to bed everyday and let me tell you Red is making progress. Yesterday it seems like 6-8 Cameras went out and it's barley Tuesday. This can only be a good thing! If they can manage a minimun 10-15 Scarlets a day if not more, this will be a MERRY Christmas ;)

I have a couple of friends who ordered a few days-to-weeks later and are content receiving their camera in Feb-Mar. Hopefully that ins't the case but be prepared, they surely are.

I freaked 2nd week of Dec. cause I lost some gigs since I didn't get my camera. Instead I landed other gigs, worked with Alexa for the first time. Life goes on, before you know it a special email will be in your mail box.
:hurray:

Wow, a little hostile post. People are not used to not having information about a product they are going to pay a good chunk of change for. When people put money down for something, the american consumer expectation is they will know a delivery date. This is not the case with RED. Not that it is good or bad, just different, and people are not used to it. I have been waiting for the Scarlet since 3k for 3k, and I have been lurking for sometime on REDusers, so I understand the wait. But if I just heard about the Scarlet, I would have no idea.

I paid my deposite and I am in line. But I still get excited when I see new footage and I would like the camera in hand. (Who wouldn't?!?!)

RED is like the ma and pa shop of the camera industry, if you think about it that way, everything makes sense as a customer for RED.

Guys! I agree, we just have to stick it out and wait. But by the way....

I just got hold of some spy footage of Peppa unboxing the Scarlet X! I would really like to know this dude's order number. If he's got his, where is mine??

Considering that we are quickly approaching one month since shipping began and there are PL mount orders in the first hour or two that haven't even got an allocation e-mail yet...I think 2 months from today might be generous.
