Storing redvolt in DSMC Side Handle

First off, I love the side handle. My favorite Epic accessory.

Questions:

Does storing redvolt in dsmc side handle drain the battery much while attached to camera? Just want to consolidate room in my Epic case.

Also, when Epic runs on redvolts, the Epic user manual says the PWR LED should blink green. The LED on my Epic brain stays solid green when running on redvolts. Is this the case for everyone?

Yes, the camera drains the battery when you store it in the side handle. Too much, in my opinion, so I always take it out. Red has said that power management is not implemented in the cameras yet.

The green light is solid.

Hi Jon, I did some tests in that regard and found the drain leaving the Red volt in the handle of an Epic-X drained it approximately 1% an hour (assuming the readout is correct). I did several tests of varying lengths 10 hours, 12, hours, 24 hours, 36 hours and the results were consistent from a 100% full charged Redvolt.

I didn't think that was too bad. I wouldn't "store" a battery in the handle as it would be virtually useless in 3 days -- but I figured in on-going run and gun situations, I was comfortable leaving it in during potential shooting times so I could grab the camera and only be delayed in the 10-12 sec bootup time. Not the additional 10-15 seconds to get the battery in.

At some point it would be nice if there is a "sleep" mode that would allow a Redvolt to keep the camera in "sleep standby" that would allow a 3-4 second rollup time that might only drain 5-10% an hour. Don't know if this is possible.
