  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC - Long Exposure

Can't agree more that it BLOWS to wait 15mins to blackshade if switching framerates and/or shutter speeds to these lows....so looking forward to this new faster blackshading as well as some means of saving/remembering blackshades.

Deanan: At some point will you please post on the WHEN we should blackshade. There have been so many posts from years back to now that i'm now at a loss of when i "should" actually blackshade--beyond the obvious. Back in R1 days it seemed to only be once you started a new project after camera sitting for length of time or you uploaded new firmware. Now we are being coached to blackshade if shooting overcranked, now low shutter speeds and not sure what else. BUT, an official GUIDE from Red i think is a MUST since seems to me we are covering a hell of a lot.....

When to black shade is the same as I've posted before:

My recommendation is to blackshade:
1) upgrading to new firmware
2) big ambient temperature changes
3) long exposure times (longer than ~1/15th sec)
4) very short exposure times (shorter than around ~1/1000th)
5) beginning of a project
6) as often as you feel like

All of the above apply R1, R1MX, Epic M, Epic X and Scarlet.
