So, I'm thrilled to finally receive my REDMote and discover I need to upgrade the firmware for it to talk to my camera. Okay. Fine. But then...

WTF? There is no method to upgrade the REDMote firmware under Windows! So, now, every time I upgrade the camera I have to schlep around and find a Mac with which to perform the matching REDMote upgrade.

That is completely unacceptable.

Anyone have any problems installing the Mac update to 2.0? I've tried everything! Turned off all wireless networks, turned off wifi on MacBook, yet still no communication with the red update software.. The network sees it, just not the red update software..

It works great. I had a version emailed to me from Red and I'd almost say it is easier to use then the one for Mac.

Windows REDMote upgrade worked smoothly. Of course, there's a slight difference from the Mac-centric directions given in the Epic Ops Guide. In Windows:

  • connect the REDMote to the Windows system via the USB cable
  • open the Devices and Printers control panel
  • open the "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget"
  • select the "Hardware" tab
  • click the "Properties" button
  • select the "Advanced" tab
  • select the radio button next to the "Value" field
  • enter 192.168.0.1 in the "Value field
  • save everything
  • proceed with the REDMote utility
