  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I just started up my computer after arriving to set for filming on monday and my RR is not showing up in RCX or RCPX... so i reinstalled the drivers, and then tried the firmware updater and got this error:

SV_ERROR_DRIVER_HWCHECK, Driver hardware check failed, run dvs test utility.

am i in trouble?

Hi,

I have the same problem... before asking technical support, i would like to know what Red told you about the problem.

regards

I had this same issue a couple months ago. Tried everything. The card was on as a rental. We shipped the card back and the owner sent it to RED. RED said they couldn't figure it out and the card would have to be repaired for $3k.... The card worked perfectly fine the night before the shoot, then on set NOTHING. Pissed me off. Still not sure what caused the problem. Please let me know if you ever find out anything. I talked to Deanan and Jonathan when I was dealing with mine...

This is the thread that I was posting in when I was dealing with my Rocket issues back in September.
Not sure if anything in there will help you, but I wanted to at least point you to where I was posting back then.

Try a safe restart:
-take the rocket out of the computer, switch the dip switch # 8 at the bottom of the card to I (other direction than 1-7)
-put it back in, restart and reinstall driver and firmware
-take the card back out and put dip switch #8 back to 0
You should be good to go...

Considering the entire EPIC workflow relies on this product, so many reports of failed cards and $3k repairs, sends the wrong message, RED.

Although your cameras are priced very attractively.....

The DIP switch solution has worked for some, but didn't for me.

I agree with Brian. It's not like we are all doing the same thing and messing up the cards. It's something going wrong with the hardware itself or some sort of driver issue that's making the firmware fail as well...

I don't see the RR on my Macbook Pro too.
I still see it on my old MacPro ( I have the daughter card for the magma enclosure in it). I won't try the firmware update as I am afraid of losing the RR after it.

Olivier

I put the RR in the magma on the MacPro : it is recognize by RXPro
I put the the magma and RR on 2 macbook pro different : RCX Pro and RCX doesn't see the rocket.

What is the fault ? RedRocket ?, magma enclosure ?, software ?

Olivier

Sorry, It is Maxx digital (not Magma enclosure).

I need to fly with the Epic and RR on friday, but It seems it won't happen. Anyone using Maxx and RR on Macbook Pro without trouble ?

Same problem here. Worked fine, dead the next. Dip switch safe mode did not work, reverting to older firmware did not work.

$3000 "repair" bill on a 18month old card that only cost $3000 to begin with (MX upgrade package) - and you only get 90 days warranty after the "repair."

Great cameras that depend on a flawed rocket for workflow is not sustainable.

welcome to the club Christopher. I feel your pain.

My problem is solved.

I just forgot to move the 2 dip switches between the use of the card in the Mac Pro and the Macbook Pro. I put the 2 switches on the right and I saw my RR again.

Christopher,

What did you do initially to cause the card to fail?

Card was working fine in RCX, Resolve, After Effects with older firmware. Updating to Epic support firmware caused it to fail.

Needed to update firmware for Epic support, after 1.4.15 update card is recognized in system profiler, kext is loaded, but not recognized by RCX or RCXP, firmware utility now errors "SV_ERROR_DRIVER_MEMORYINIT, On card memory init failed."

Revert to 1.3.5 driver and can load 1.3.5 firmware, rocket is recognized by RCX but log just fills up with decode errors.

This was the original red rocket card (Green PCB), I suspect there was more than just a cosmetic design change from the this rocket/atomix card - green pcb, to the current atomix/rocket design - red pcb. There seems to be a high number $3000 paper weights after upgrading.

The newer drivers have more rigorous checks on the hardware which is why it's showing as failing those tests.
We don't know the cost to fix until we've fully tested the card in the lab.

Green vs Red has no bearing on issue.

For now it's best to downgrade to an earlier driver/firmware or send the card in for hardware evaluation.

As I said, after upgrading, older firmware no longer work - decode errors, safe mode to 1.3.5 = decode errors. Place another rocket in the same system, works.

It would be interesting to know if anyone still has a v1 green pcb red rocket and it works fine with the current 1.4.15+ drivers and RCXP,

I started a poll:

Looks like it'd be best to send the card in for a hardware check up.
