Hello,

I'm looking for a lightweight, efficient solution that will allow me to go from hand-held with my Epic to sticks. I'm using Sachtler sticks so if there is anything is that already compatible with their baseplate, I guess that would be easier.

Thanks,
Howie

Couple of options we've looked at are the O-grips (with a shoulder pad, they work quite well), or getting something like the ET mantis - you leave the dovetail/quick release plate on the tripod and put the bridge plate directly onto the Mantis.

looking for a dodge around the $$ RED QR system and found THIS on the sachtler site:
Touch & Go sandwich plate. Hoping maybe to use with 'X' shoulder-mount system and this plate on the shoulder mount, yet can have the sachtler wedge on the bottom of the camera (Scarlet in my case) to snap off and onto my 18II
$300

Of course begs what compromises will be needed with this camera-height (unknown) and issues with rails and related attachments. Seems to solve one problem then creates others!
*sigh*

I was looking at the Mantis too, but if I'm not mistaken, you have to detach the camera from the Mantis then put in on an Arri dovetail which would live on the head. I wish there were an all-in-one solution, but I guess a beefier HH rig is going to add a lot of unnecessary weight to the head which kind of defeats the purpose.

Several people have posted recently in other threads about new systems they are developing to accomplish handheld to sticks flexibility at a reasonable cost...still waiting to see if one of them hits it out of the park. But I have to agree, at this point, no one company has all the answers. RED's solution is very elegant (though expensive) but doesn't support 15mm offset.
