It was hinted that it might be possible in a future firmware upgrade, is this true or would it be too complicated?

What is it you are asking? Scarlet already has HDRx at limited resolution, frame and data rate combinations.

Scarlet has HDRx already. Just not @24fps when shooting 4k. There may be an upgrade in the future that allows for a further compressed x-track which may allow for 4k HDRx @24fps.

Scarlet has HDRx right out of the gate. What was mentioned as a possibility is HDRx at higher frame rates via future upgrades. The Scarlet is mostly limited by bandwidth of the internal data paths and components. Perhaps they can gain higher rates for HDRx or make it usable at 4K 24fps by employing greater compression on the X-Track that provides the highlight protection. Simple in theory, but could get really complicated to implement. I'm also speculating, but that seems like a logical place to start with it.

HDRx sounds amazing. But with support for 13 stops without it, I don't know how often I'll be using it. :)

The only thing I'm not sure of is can Scarlet do HDRx at 1k, 2k, or 3k at 24fps? Also, this may be a stupid question, but how many stops of light does the average dslr capture? I thought it was around 12?

They can.
The numbers posted are "up to" numbers.

Thanks for all the clarification. I know you get irritated a bit, cause all this info has already been stated, lol.

Anyway I forgot to shake your hand personally and say 'Thanks" for all the work you do.

God Bless!

I owned a 5D MKII and all I can say is the Dynamic Range in video mode is absolutely dreadful. In comparision to a Red they are not even close. It may say they have 11 stops on paper but if you test it in reality it has like maybe 6 stops. I strongly advise watching Zacuto's 2011 Camera Shootout Documentary. As far as I'm concerned the Red One MX suited all of my DR needs...and I'm sure Scarlet will exceed those! Can't F'n wait!!!

So, compressed footage in HDRx and not at 4K?
And 24 fps doesn't work in PAL-land, need to be 25 fps
