I just spent a long time on the line with VISA and they WILL cover the Red Scarlet with an additional 1 year warranty after the RED warranty expires (up to $10k per item purchased) if the camera is purchased with a VISA card. One stipulation I believe, is if you are using the camera professionally, the card must be "business enhanced". If you are an enthusiast you can use a personal card.
This is very good news!

Awesome, Will look into this.

That is great news seeing as a Visa card is already what I have on file with RED.
Thanks for the info!

Yes, spoke to Visa myself. The entire purchase must be made on the card in order to have it covered for 1 additional year. So if you've ordered a package, and you're using more than one card to pay for it, Visa won't cover it since the purchase is not made on one card.

However, you could pay for the camera body ONLY on one particular Visa card and accessories on another perhaps in order to have the body covered for the extra 1yr.

Pretty sure AmEx offers a similar service

Checked into the fine print details on this and Visa will definately cover the extra year of warranty free of charge as one of the extra perks associated with using their card. Here is the catch with getting this extra benefit:
As previously noted above, an enthusiast buyer using their personal CC will automatically get the warranty extention if the camera was paid in full using the Visa. Should such enthusiast use their camera in any "business" related way then the extended coverage is null and void.
If the camera was paid in full using a Visa that has been issued under a company name then the warranty extention is all good, should it be needed. Of course making any claim is just as involved as an insurance claim -just without a deductible.

If you plan on making money with your camera then it would be wise to use a company CC for full payment.

Most good credit cards offer similar these days. I guess that's part of what they charge you the big interest rates for! Check with the issuing bank for your credit card, not all of them have the same terms and conditions or they may have restrictions.

And consider the RED Armor as an alternative... Or perhaps an addition. I would be interested to know if you could buy the Scarlet body + RED Armor, getting 2 years coverage that way, and then another 1 year extension through Visa/Amex/MC..? Hmmm... Scarlet body plus RED Armor is over $10K, but that shouldn't matter -- they just cap their coverage at $10K (or at least Visa seems to).

A note to those interested in this - make sure to call your specific credit card company to check.
I have a VISA business card through my bank (Wells Fargo) and just got off the phone with the rep who told me they do not offer any sort of extended warranty on purchases.
So it seems not all Visa's are the same.

EDITED TO ADD:
I was wrong - keep reading.
If you call VISA directly (and not the bank who issued the card) they will confirm the extended warranty coverage.

As I understand it, if you buy the camera with red armour, you would actually have four years of warranty coverage with the added VISA coverage.

This is usually a perk of Gold and Platinum cards. In almost all cases the wording is that it doubles the manufacturers warranty, if the warranty is 1 year or less. There are exclusions though. I had a GPS that broke at 14 months, the manufacturer stated they did not offer any repair, just $20 off a new GPS. Credit card company offered me money back or a replacement unit, I chose the money as I did not wish to buy another GPS from a company with such poor service. Another time a $900 dishwasher was not covered, dishwashers apparently are excluded.

True - though I have a Platinum business card... so still best to call and double check.
Just didn't want people to take it for granted that their VISA card would double the warranty.

Again, I was wrong - keep reading.

Luis, wrong. I have the same business card through Wells Fargo. You're supposed to call VISA, not Wells Fargo. There are 2 numbers on the back of your card. Check it out. I got an email confirmation from them with all the details about the extended warranty.

Prince - I've never been so happy to be wrong.
I'll give them a call right now and check.
(you'd think the Wells Fargo reps would have told me that)

Thanks for the info.

Alright - so I just got off the phone with VISA directly and Prince was right on the money.

I asked them about their coverage and was told they will extend the original manufacturers warranty for one full year for any warranty of three years or less.
The key word here is ORIGINAL warranty.

I asked them about the RED Armor scenario - meaning, if I got RED Armor would I get an additional year of coverage at the end of the 3 years from RED, and the answer was no.
In that case your VISA coverage would run concurrently with your first year of RED Armor coverage.

In order to take advantage of their warranty coverage I was told I would only have to furnish the card statements showing the entire purchase price was paid with my VISA card, and the original warranty card info from RED.
Seeing as we've put down deposits, you would need to keep your card statements from both the deposit and the remaining balance.

Thanks again for the info, Prince.
Greatly appreciated!

I'll edit my previous posts to make sure I'm not spreading any misinformation.

Awesome. Good to hear. Also make sure that your entire purchase of the cam is on the card. I'm trying to figure that part out now because I ordered a package in which I might need to split apart.

Regarding the $10k cap, is this per item or for a single invoice? Hopefully an order with accessories (more the $10,000) would have all parts covered as each item was less than $10k.
