RED ARMOR

Something to think about if considering Red Armor:

"Warranty Limitations - All Red warranties do not cover (a) maintenance, repair or replacement necessitated by loss or damage resulting from any cause other than normal use and operation of the product in accordance with the Red's specifications and owner's manual, including but not limited to: theft, exposure to weather conditions, operator negligence, misuse, abuse, improper electrical/power supply; (b) alterations, modifications or repairs by Buyer or unauthorized third parties; (c) accident, disaster, improper handling or storage, droppage, modification to the camera, opening the camera body, use of non-Red cables, use third party accessories or acts of nature or any other peril originating from outside the product; (d) transportation damage, lack of maintenance, defective batteries, battery leakage; (e) cosmetic damage or other non- operating parts; and (f) charges related to "No problem found" diagnosis. Removal or modification of camera lens mount voids any and all warranties except when the lens mount is replaced by the Buyer with a RED approved lens mount. Breaking the seal on the camera body or removing the adjustable backfocus assembly is prohibited and voids any and all warranties unless otherwise approved by RED. Any parts replaced by Red during warranty repair are the property of Red and will not be returned to Buyer. Red may use refurbished parts for repairs or replacements. "

I'm torn about buying the extended Red Armor warranty...sounds great knowing your camera is covered if something decides to poop out in the camera. But in reality, it seems like the obvious reasons you would want a warranty is not covered by it (accidental damage, etc.)

Maybe I'm spoiled from my previous Best Buy Geek Squad coverage on my 5D Mark II...then again these are super expensive cameras so I guess you can not expect the same type of coverage. Not sure what to do yet :-/

I for sure plan on getting some type of camera insurance that covers theft and other unfortunate happenings. Longtime Red One owners out there what do you think? If you have had your camera for a few years please chime in!

um. so what does the RED Armor cover? confused....

That seems like normal Warranty items to me.

It's a warranty against a defective product, not insurance for breaking it or damaging it with unapproved items. Then again if you have 'drop kick' insurance it might be superfluous since you can just claim it was dropped and damaged and pay the $500 deductible rather than "maybe" needing a warranty.

The lens mount bit probably wouldn't actually hold up as legal though if a circuit board went bad unless it was an electronic lens mount that fried the board.

What you're referring to is not a warranty, it's insurance. Completely different thing.

And please don't tell me you just compared the Best Buy Geek Squad and RED?

This isn't easy to swallow. It's bit after bit on top of that 14k, don't know if this will be feasible any more. Ouuch
I kind of feel the same way. I'm somewhere in the middle of going on without it and taking the next 10 or so days to re-consider. I'm between a lull in contracts and don't have any work since next week is a holiday week. RED can you meet some of us in the middle here and give us til the 1st of Jan?

If you sell it within a year, then you can be happy that you were able to write off that massive purchase (and the extended coverage) that you only used for 11 months. The write off will easily pay for the extended coverage

Huh? Not sure exactly what you mean, but, if you wrote it off and then sell it within a year, you have to recapture most of the write-off.

Looks like I'm not sure exactly what I mean either. Guess I'm not completely familiar with the process of recapture :)

Basically, if you wrote if off, it now has an accounting value of zero. If you sell it for more than zero, that becomes profit and is taxable.

I just purchased my Red Armor. It was a tough decision but the peace of mind over three full years is well worth it. When you do the math it is only $62.50 a month over two years for a 10,000 product. Not that bad at all.

never thought a beagle'd be teaching me about taxes. :)

Maybe this has been covered but I noticed that on RED STORE it says that you have to buy RED ARMOR before order processing begins but Jarred mentioned that you can add the armor anytime during its first year of warranty. Just wondering which is right?

It has to purchased prior to taking shipment of your Camera. It's easier for RED, and prevents us from forgetting it when we hit the 1 year mark.

Not according to Jarred's post that opens this thread:

"- Can be purchased at time of purchase or any time during your original 1 year warranty."
