I am wondering what everyone uses for a small monitor for critical focus. The Red touch LCD is too low resolution for critical focus. I have used the Small HD DP6 before and really like it with just over 720p resolution. I will have a Bomb EVF as well. What are your recommendations.

almost any 24" HDMI LCD is good for critical focus...$200 at your nearest convinience store :)

Highly recommend TVlogic VFM-056WP, seems like its quickly becoming the industry standard, and its no suprise given the features and the price.

I haven't used the TV Logic for critical focus but I am very interested in them. Looking at their website, I'm not 100% clear on what the 1:1 Pixel for Pixel mode does - as in what I'm hoping it does. Does it mimic Red's 1:1 FOCUS CHECK (Image Zoom) mode? And, since its just taking a signal, I assume I can do this while recording? That would be pretty awesome.

I love Red's 1:1 Focus Check, but would kill to be able to use that feature when recording.

Also, TVLogic's 5.6 looks good, but would it more advantageous to go for their 7" or 9"? Or does size, weight, and power become more significant issues at that point? I found a good deal on a 9" one, but I really didn't want to go over 7".

Thanks,
lael

Yes that is Michael Jackson checking out the Red One many years ago. I had shot one of his videos so I made it my Avatar.

And my Assistants use the TV Logic 17 inch monitor which has great false color for critical focus. Also we use the 056 model on the cameras. Really rock solid and sharp.

Cool about MJ. I always figured that when I saw your Avatar.

Hey, so does the TVLogic's 1:1 pixel to pixel then zoom the image for focus check?
And maybe stupid question, but the TVLogic would allow me to do that while recording, right?

Best,
lael

Since my AC's bought the monitors and they use them I am not an expert. But the folks at TV Logic are very helpful.

I haven't used the TV Logic before but I can definitely recommend the SmallHD DP6. Used several of them without a single problem. Great quality and a nice set of features to go along with it. I'll give TV Logic a try here soon though I hope.
