We have seen many ppl on here give up on the Scarlet X dream because of it's price point, we think that you all should never give up on your dream of owning a RED camera! For us it seems a little weird, that if you where willing to spend 6k on the old scarlet why not save that 6k and keep saving and keep adding to that account. Dreams can come true, we know it is discouraging to not have the money at hand but we promise you that if you save, even if it is for the next couple of months to a year or so you can get your dream Camera! If you give up this quickley then what does that say of your character, please no one give up, make your dream come true with patience and savings keep working toward that goal because if you are willing to stick it out, in the end you will be rewarded! We hope these words serve as some encourgment to all of you that have given up or that believe the Scarlet is not in your reach, it can be....:grouphug:

We already have a R1 MX in my Department for use on our MA Filmmaking course.
I was hoping to buy a Scarlet [or two] for BA Film courses, which are shorter duration and less complex.
It's a shame as I have held off purchasing for 2 years, waiting for Scarlet, but I can't justify £10,000 for a camera kit without lenses, tripod, etc.
I will look at alternatives around £7000 price point and buy next summer.
Also would prefer something with S16mm style depth of field.

The Scarlet is more comparable to Epic....

You probably can pick up a 2nd hand R1 @ 7000 very soon, MX and all. I'd call that the 16 mm cam, and the Scarlet the new main cam... That is how mych better the tech behind the sensor is on Epic vs R1...

But the A-cam just became a more fun option nov 3rd. I can totally see that.

I don't really see the point of polls like this. Please remember that reduser is a forum for professionals and noise should be kept at a minimum - especially when starting a thread.

I do understand that you guys are excited, and understandably so, but please bear in mind that many visit reduser daily — a lot of them working professionals — and everyone has a limited amount of time (and patience) while looking for useful information.

I'll wait next year if any company brings a small EFP/ENG cam with an interesting codec. I'd love to work with REDCODE anyway, I'm totally used to RED workflow.

R1 is very tempting, but I'm not doing fiction atm, and my cam use is more on the documentary, corporate side. A 15 kg R1 is not really a run'n'gun rig...

Sony will release hopefully a new FS100 camera, built from the F65 (same sensor but cheaper brain), like they did with F3 and the FS100.
The F65 is a 8K cam (4K full RGB) with a RAW codec. I can't wait to see that kind of specs on the next Sony FS100.

The Canon EOS C(inema) is not that interesting it's a FF35 sensor that implies a really good focus pulling, just like the future RED Dragon. Not sure that motion jpeg in the Canon Cinema is suitable to work on 4K video. :(

I'll look also on Panasonic next AF100 : a new AF100 with the GH2/GH3 sensor could be also very interesting...

Understandable and we are humbly sorry we just wanted to encourage ppl. but we will respect the forum from now on and post only if necessary =)

Why is this the prevailing wisdom among so many? What does "very soon" mean? I'd love to see it happen, but I just don't see people giving up 4.5K and 120fps @ 2K for that much cheaper than a Scarlet-X...

The difference between Epic/Scarlet and R1 is much more than the numbers...

R1 prices have been held high through REDs policy, which is good, but that time is over now.

What happens behind the sensor, affects the image at least as much as the sensor itself...

There is currently an extensively kittet out R1 kit for sale at 13.500 over at http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?66930-FS-R1-KIT-DEAL-OF-THE-YEAR

That kit seriously makes me want to cancel my Scarlet order and jump on that but then again...

Scarlet is great for the fact that it will be upgradable to Dragon, R1s future, for me at least, is uncertain... I stage 3'd my R1 M to get in on the future, Scarlet seems like an awesome decision but deals like this are going to start making the

'we don't want 4K' crowd turning into the 'long live 4K' cheerios.

The R1 is still relevent, but the size of it, especially kitted out with some of the older gear (EVF, power, RED drive) gets really crazy.

That's why I never bought one in the 1st place. 50% of my work is one man nature footage in crazy places like Iceland.

If you are a studio type though... a 2nd hand R1-MX could be the way to go.... you could be set for a full days work, with EVF, great monitor etc for the same price as a barebones Scarlet package.
