Well,

I thought about the scarlet being also, at least from time to time, my still camera, but I couldn't come up with a decent way of taking shots with her.
the only way to use your Scarlet, as you don't have an optical viewfinder, is by attaching an EVF, right? Or are there any other solutions I am not aware of?
If you add an EVF the scarlet is pretty useless without a rig or a tripod. Not hand held for at all.

any thoughts?

? Not useful for handheld? Why? Because it weighs a few lbs more than a DSLR? I believe someone reported Epic's weight with side handle, battery, LCD, and a short Canon zoom at around 8lbs all up. Light for handheld work by motion camera standards, not much more size or weight than my old Graflex XL medium format press camera with a standard focal length lens.

I am not concerned about weigth, more about usability. How can you shoot stills with it the most practical way?
There is no other possibility than the EVF/LCD, right?

Right, so why is that a problem? EVF or LCD provide a lot more useful information and better viewability in low light than a mirror reflex system. You see precisely what the sensor sees and there are lots of useful tools for critically judging focus and exposure.

I've shot a lot with Cineroid's EVF and the 7D but when it comes to combining camera, EVF, arm, battery the setup becomes quickly unpractical. Well, I'd like to use the scarlet from time to time as still camera but I am just unsure about the practical approach.
Mhhh... I am really looking forward to the solutions posted here on the board. For me it's difficult to see the scarlet as an option to dslrs.

I plan to shoot for stills with the LCD and side handle. I expect it to be pretty heavy but putting Nikon or Canon lightweight primes on it should help. A strap would probably be helpful and I may need to keep putting it down for breaks, haha.

But shooting with a lcd means losing stability...
I'd love to have a tiny EVF like on the new Sony nex-7. No weight, great information and resolution - and extra stability.

After seeing that vegas image at the scarlet event, I will be trying to make the scarlet work for photography as much as possible. I definitely plan to use it for landscapes and such where I have the time to set up and get that awesome image it can make. But for most stuff, like sports photography for example, I will still be using the dslr for a while.

anybody know how i might be able to rig up my strobes to a Scarlet? is it possible?

also wondering this, and don't trust me 100% but i'm pretty sure I remember one of the red team members mentioning something about it being in development

I read that also, it was from an VERY old post though, and people were asking for a high sync speed (i wonder what that would be!)

Chris... I'm currently just letting my Epic roll (no stills mode yet) and then popping the strobe via Air Remote. Working pretty well, I just pull the still that caught the flash.

Ingenious! (talk about resourceful!)

Thanks Chris, that definitely gives me a work around in the meantime!
