How long is the warranty? Is it transferable if you buy an SSD from a 3rd party?

Red usually limits the warranty to the first owner. That being said, I don't know Red's official policy on the SSD drives, perhaps they are more compassionate with their accessory warranties than they are with their camera body warranties.

I thought about the same thing with the 4-pack SSD purchases. Those of us on a limited budget have to be cost-effective wherever possible, we can't afford the 4-pack on our own, splitting the cost of it with other people on limited budgets makes perfect sense. The only problem with everyone going in on the 4-pack is that lame warranty transfer problem.

My own plan for now is to buy one drive from Red simply to get by, and then down the line I'll see what develops. I'm expecting somebody else might make a storage solution that's more affordable, or Red's SSD's might come down in price in another year.

Just make sure the person you went in on with the 4 pack is a friend. If you have a problem with your SSD card just go through them. I know that can't always happen but so far its the best solution for this problem.

If it is only a 90-day warranty in the first place it shouldn't be a big deal buying from a 3rd party. 90 days will go by quickly and then you are on your own anyway. Haven't heard of any REDMag problems either. They have been rock solid in my experience.
