  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MOBILE RED-ROCKET

I am not talking about the kind which can be connected under a macbook pro, I am thinking a standalone unit that you can plug in like a harddrive via Thunderbolt, fibre channel, or ESata.

Thunderbolt Red Rocket. - just rolls off the toingue

+ 1 for THUNDER ROCKET v2 of the RED Rocket Card. Dual TB RR's would be insane for transcoding.

that's cool, nut not really mobile....
I would love a red rocket v2 thunderbolt version the size of 2 stacked redmag readers for half the price of the current red rocket :) (please red, make this dream come true ;)

You can easily build this into a small hardcase/data flypack... I have had much worse electronics to cobble together to make "mission focused" flypacks during my time in the USAF, Network Broadcast and Commercial Production. Easy peasy... Working on a scalable-flypack system now actually.

I can put them together but I have a feeling they have something way slicker than this...

I would be more looking for something that fit's in my backpack, size smaller than a epic body :), so when you have to fly you can take it with you as carry on, instead of taking another box with you...

that's why it would be great if Red would re-design/create a rocket v2 card with updated hardware, which is thunderbolt only, so you can make it a different size and are not stuck to pci sizes :)

Looking forward to getting these...

This looks pretty sweet! I can def see this as a mobile solution. Red Rocket, qaudro 4000 (slaved, would that work?), mac mini, red station, Bam!!
...OH, and when we get back from the feild, then plug the thing into the new iMac we bought for the AsEditor. Loving the possibilities!

Those enclosures look great though thanks for posting.

I'm also interested in the magma box setup. Would love to hear if anyone has done this and also hooked up a thunderbolt raid as well. We really need thunderbolt card readers and faster drives or else everything will just get bottlenecked...

The card reader we have are very fast, of course thunderbolt would be faster, pick your battles, Red will change everything but it takes time. In the meantime, I ordered a Promise Pegasus raid drive through my computer store will report back as to how fast it transfers within itself.

All cool. Except Thunderbolt isn't really fast enough to use the max capability of a ROCKET.

Maybe I don't know this but, I suggested a fibre channel card... Expensive (check!) but that would probably burn pretty fast.

Glad to help... :)

Hey Max, One thing to add, RED licences the Red Rocket from another company... I give RED ALL the credit in the world for getting us these cards in ANY form so that we can use them in the studio, on set and in the field--scaling them to needs of the production. I don't have $100K+ to buy Clipster, but if you look around to other vendors, WE can deploy these cards and scale their capabilities (thunderbolt, pci expander boxes) today. RED has a lot on their plate right now, given their list of priorities, I don't see this one as being very high on the list.... Maybe as a part of one of the RED RAY systems, but now i am speculating.

Also, If you want to put one of these in your backpack, you can do that now with the magna thunderbolt enclosure that is the single pci slot.

Hope this helps guys... Cheers! :)
