  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why is it so hard to find Anamorphic lenses to rent?

I don't know why you would be having problems. Heck, anamorphic lenses sell on here just about every week or two and don't even get me started on the auction site craziness.

Are you trying to look locally or have you looked elsewhere already? Things may just be rented out right now, Anamorphics are pretty popular these days.

I'm looking more locally at the moment. I used to own a square front 50mm Lomo, I miss the lens but had to sell it because I didn't have any use for it then.

If I could buy a cheap 50mm Lomo square or circle front I'd be happy.

Any suggestions Zack?

Other than picking up a set from an LA rental company, I'm not sure. Surely with all the production work in Texas there'd be someone with a set, if not then maybe some fellow REDUsers could help?

Also, I think those LOMOs in the sale post are just regular LOMO lenses.

Yea, I think they are. Normally the FS section is flooded with them, but I can't find any.

Just posted what I could find in hopes that might be what Justin is looking for.

LOMO anamorphics are old lenses and are relatively hard to find in good shape both optically and mechanically. Then they are OCT19 native, so conversion to PL costs 1k+
Even after that the focus gears are not always in friendly spots and are often stiff so more modifications are required.
i think mostly, the sets are owned by private individuals who are on their own rental terms.
these are old lenses and need to be used with care. my friend just rented a 35mm lomo for a day job and it came back shifting image now on focus pull. finding people who would do work on them is a pain. Duclos doesnt touch them anymore.

i have a set of lomo squarefronts 35/50/80 available for short term rentals in LA. It's a set that took me a couple of years to handpick, covert and modify. but i'd be reluctant to ship out of LA.

i have one.. but whether i ever find a lens tech to service it ..

anamorphics.. they're both lovely, and pains in the ass.. and ken rich sells/buys them all (it seems)

les bosher once told me the lomos were made in old t34 factories using unmodified tools.. i think that was a joke

Not as many exist in the world combined with high demand results in lower availability. And not all anamorphics are created equal so the better glass is even more difficult to come by. My two cents.

Im surprized that someone hasn't started making them again. RED Pro Anamorphics sounds good to my ears. :)
