If i bought the Scarlet-X and didnt buy the lcd touchscreen or the EVF...how would I go about changing framerates and redcode compressions?
Could I plug the Scarlet-X use a BNC monitor and view the settings and control them via the camera, or possible an iPad application.

Get to REDucation at RED Studios - there is one coming up in December

Right now, you need either the side handle, the touchscreen monitor, or the redmote to control the camera.

So basically buy a redmote for $550 and a canon lens your good to go. Assuming you can record via HDSDI. :)
$10,300+lens = Working Camera

I wouldn't describe a camera without a viewfinder or onboard monitor as being "good to go"... and then there's the cost of the recorder as well. And the "+lens" part is also a major budgetary factor.

Even with the side mount handle controls, I believe you can only see the settings in the EVF as you change them, so you need the EVF... or the LCD touchscreen or Redmote.

- $550 for REDMote is your cheapest bet.

- Then you could use something like the Atmos Ninja $1k

- Portable HDD $100

and a nice cheap Canon prime lens for $100

And a niceeeeee long extension cord:

And technically you would be good to go!

$9750 + $1000 + $550 + $200 + $100 + $15 = $11,615 is pretty much your cheapest route possible to shooting something (within 50' of indoors).

If you're super frugal you could then sell your SSD side panel for $1250 to a future Scarlet customer to pay for a battery plate and an old use V-Lock battery!

I'm only being about 1/2 serious but it's a good reminder that while it's nice to spend $20k on your Scarlet it isn't technically necessary.

Its easier to sell ;) to my boss. Its already a bit overkill but it will get the job done so much better then what we have now. I do alot of chroma keying and im fed up with noisy blacks.

You can control the camera via sidehandle or redmote if you have an HD-SDI monitor. Don't place your bets on an HDMI monitor. Consider HDMI a bonus. The touchscreen LCD is nice to have though, and probably renters will expect it.

cheers.

Dan, does the HDMI not work? I have an HDMI version of the DP6 and was thinking of sliding with that for a while.

Got approval for the complete package. Now I need to find a good lens and I need to get a hold of a Bomb Rep so I can take care of the Purchase Order paperwork :(

Just wondering where you got the official confirm on the HDMI? I cant keep up! And while were at it..Im assuming the SDI and HDMI outs can be used simultaneously?

You can also use a non-touch Red LCD with the side handle or Redmote to change menu settings. I actually like the old Red LCDs better because they're less reflective. Also prefer the side handle over the Redmote for quick access, I feel it's more solid and responsive.
