Can anyone point me in the right direction of a good lens support for the RPP zoom 18-85mm lens.

It's quite a beast of a lens and it should be with a used with a support...just not sure which is the best one. Does anyone have any good suggestions please?

Cheers,
Neil

18-85 support kit

18-85 support kit

I recommend OptiTek:wink5:
But seriously- adjustable height foot for fine tuning, optional handle, fully integrated with the profile of the lens. We also provide a kit to turn the RU Bracket into proper support bridge.

I have the OptiTek and it's absolutely brilliant.

Personally I'd use it in conjunction with an Arri LS-9 support bridge.

I haven't tried the RU Adaptor kit, but the LS-9 is a solid solid piece of kit. I'm not so sure I'd trust the weight to an RU Adaptor for extended periods of time - although I'm sure many people are using it with no problems - just seems worth spending that extra to protect the $10,000 lens

Let me also throw in my praise for OptiTek. We own two to support both our 18-85 zooms running on a Red One and Epic. Solid piece of gear.

I'm using optitek for mine. Now if only RED would introduce a 15mm offset universal mount so I could use my RU bracket. I'm using a zacuto bridge with it for now.

Any other choices besides Optitek?

Any other choices besides Optitek?

I have tried to contact Optitek many times since last week (website, phone) and can't seem to get an answer. The number listed for the office goes to a home residence that has nothing to do with the company. I'm bummed because they seem to have the perfect solution. Does anyone know another source where I can purchase a support for the RED 18-85 "beast" I need one asap.

I've got the Optitek lens support for my 18-85mm RPZ and wouldn't want to use the lens without it. The handle is also useful for lifting the lens out of it's case and mounting it to the camera.

Sorry Greg,
I 've been in meetings all day.
Will contact you first thing tomorrow.
We have them in stock.

It looks like from the pictures, the adaptor kit from Optitek works with the old red one universal mount... is it still needed for the DSMC one?

It doesn't work with the new DSMC one as the bolt is too thick and short. Hoping they come up with a solution to this...

I bought my 18-85 used and it came with a Duclos support which is very nice. It has an adjustable piece to take up any slight variation in height. I believe it was supposed to work with an Arri plate but I just drilled a Red Universal mount and use a 3/8ths screw. Works a treat.

The Duclos model is designed to work with the ARRI lens support standard (many manufacturers use this, not just ARRI). Can't recall on the Opitek.
