Hey Everyone,

I'm importing my R3D footage directly into AE5.5 with the new Epic color plug-in. I can import the footage - all seems to be going well and then I start to get "file cannot be opened" unsupported format ( 86::1 ) errors for some, but not all of the footage.

2 different jobs, different cameras, different drives.

Adobe tech support had no good ideas.

Anybody see anything similar? Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

Does this always happen with the same files or does it seem somewhat random which files are affected? Have you tried loading the clips in Premiere or in our REDCINE-X (PRO) application?

If you're having issues with specific clips then please email us (redcinex at red dot com) so we can take a look at the file.

Thanks,

Bump.

Sorry - PM'ed him directly - my media is too big to email.

Files effected are not random - some files are dropping out, some not. RedCine-X has no problem with them - haven't checked Premiere yet.

We could see Epic files and start the import but had the unsupported notice pop up because of improperly installing the Epic plug ins in the wrong folders. We fixed that and it all worked fine.

Ah... will check that. Thank you.

Folders are as per Adobe spec.... Thanks though.

Well, All I can say is I signed up for the FCP trade in... and they sent me... a WINDOWS versin of CS 5.5... wasnt given a choice at checkout... but you would THINK they would assume a FCP user is on a MAC!

NOT a cool start to the switch... this kind of crap reminds me of why I never took Adobe seriously... I get to start with a refund hassle as there is no weekend help to correct the error either.

EDIT: and this was a DIRECT SALE FROM ADOBE... not a reseller.

These are the errors that are generated when you select a file that AE has changed to unsupported format:

No word from Red, no word from Adobe...

Has anyone successfully used the Epic importer in AE CS5.5 - if so, please post your version details. Thanks.

Yes, I use the importer every day for Premiere Pro and AE CS5.5. No problems.

Ok send me screen shots of these 2 folders on your disk:

Applications/Adobe After Effects CS5.5/Contents
Applications/Adobe After Effects CS5.5/Contents/Plug-ins/(MediaCore)

Thanks

Dave

Your PM is full - what's your email?

Hi Mark & Dave,

I'm experiencing the same issue.
I'm working on a Mac using Creative Suite CS5.5.
I've tried importing RED Epic footage using Premiere 5.5 & After Effects 5.5 on a Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro with the same errors.

Did you guys come up with any solutions, thoughts on how to solve this issue?

Many thanks,
Steve

Thanks for chiming in.

Crazy question: Is your version retail or download? Mine is retail...

I had some issues with only the first half or 2/3 of an R3D file working in Premiere, so I put it all into Redcine Pro X and did a R3D trim, but left the file at it's original length and did an export. Premiere seemed to like that better.

Colin

Good idea - exporting now...

Thanks.

If you have recently upgraded to cs5.5.1 then you will need to manually reinstall the epic importer! If you do not you will receive an error - something which i encountered.

Hope this helps.

Ivan
