In my younger years, ignorance would bring out extreme passion in the form of anger and hatred. Older and hopefully somewhat wiser now, I simply do my best to avoid those who are ignorant. Cases in point- "Alexa is great and Red sucks", "FCPX is useless", "HDR looks unrealistic therefor it is a terrible tool", "Kodak stock is far superior to Fuji". To those pushing these statements it seems the world is Black & White. I see these types more than any time in my almost thirty years in this business.

I look forward to November 3rd with an open mind and a smile, not to declare a winner, but knowing that somehow my creative juices still flow due in large part to a little company that dared to say "not good enough".

Diatribe complete. Cheers to those who get it.

Cheers.

Almost every camera, every format, every stock, they all have or had their own purpose and application. It comes down to personal preference, preference, and application. I feel there is no "winner", but...I do think Scarlet will have one of the widest purpose, widest application, and widely preferred camera, for many jobs. I cant wait!

Cheers indeed!

P.S. In other words, I agree with you Dan ;)

So you have progressed from an angry young artist to a mildly annoyed middle aged one?:hat:

I cannot agree more. I'm SO tired of DPs, ACs and Producers calling good gear 'garbage' or 'worthless' because of minor tweaks or things they'd prefer differently or because it's a brand they dont root for. I'm a Red Evangelist, all my friends know this, but I'm not going to call Alexa 'garbage', because it's not, and to say it is would only erode my own credibility. I feel the same about anyone who calls Red garbage, they remove any credibility they may have had.

I was a grumpy old man at 20, over a decade later and all I want to do is move to a small holding on a tiny island, and sit on the porch in my rocking chair, cleaning a shotgun. The general public annoy the crap out of me, the art and craft of film is dominated too much by money and industry (I understand the reality) and the world is a pretty shitty place—but at least once a day something makes me stop, smile, think or feel.

Its a crazy world that I love to hate.

You just described 90% of users here. Everything RED is best, amazing, all alternatives suck. Everything RED says and does is right even if it's insulting non RED users. Lets not forget users here wishing bad things to happen to other companies in the business. Make thread how product X from RED is better than product Y from alternative company and next 10 pages are laughing and praising blindly the conclusion (no matter how untrue it is). Make thread about product Y from alternative manufacturer performing as well or better than product X from RED and you get 10 pages worth of shit storm before the thread is locked.

Philip Bloom didn't compare RED to scientology for nothing. I don't feel like arguing this for x ammount of pages though. Instead I share this song with you:

There is no objective reality. We all see and interpret the things around us through the lens of our own experience, emotions and mindset. Those angry, belligerent and annoying people you experience are a reflection of you while also being someone else's joy and love. Meanwhile, you, too, are someone's annoyance, object of disdain, and hopelessly ignorant distraction, even while your family and friends adore you. We all strive to do the best we can.

Whilst this is true, my disdain for the general public comes from working within a cinema environment for eight years. I won't hijack the thread to discuss the self involved nature of society or politics because we know where discussions like that head on forums. I like people really, if I didn't then I wouldn't spend so much of my time trying to better the lives of other people at home and abroad. But lets just say there is a lot of the society around me that I really can't stand. Thats me judging them without knowing them...my own flaw.

Some great replies here. In case anyone still misunderstood my original post let me clarify. I am NOT brand loyal. I will buy the best tool for me at any given time and sometimes that may even be a product that is not "the best" one. If Canon's offering on Nov 3 is the missing puzzle piece for my arsenal at this point I will not hesitate to buy it over the Scarlet even if the Scarlet blows it out of the water spec for spec. BUT- I will still be grateful to Red for pushing the industry to where it is now and I will continue to follow their progress. I probably should have titled this thread: Close-minded people embarrass me.

Then I highly suggest you avoid reading comments left on YOUTUBE. You will burn with anger, like I do.
I've tried leveling with many red-users in regards to their bitter disregard for common courtesy and it got me no where, there is no point preaching to a fool only looking for trouble.

Hurry up Nov 3, the suspense it eating away at me. Red or Canon? Canon or Red? No-one knows? I still think they have joined forces, Jim's arrogant posts pointed at Canon lead me to believe he's fabricating a battle which does not exist. Could Red's technology have capitalized on Canon's production facilities?

90% =) I think the problem with forums is it tends to bring forward the "loudest" people. I bet it is really only a few that make the most of the noise.
