  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Store Scarlet Subscription

Had a thought, I'm simply going by logic, as I'm a writer/director and simply know a good camera/specs - nothing about camera engineering. And I get that it is unreasonable to have such high expectations of Nov 3 when the bar is already a mile higher than it should be.

Obviously there is a difference between EOS sensors and Red sensors. But if you take it back to the basics - if Canon can produce a camera body will full frame sensors for < 5k, could it be argued that a FF Scarlet could also achieve a FF for say < 10k? Just trying to get my head around this. Would a FF sensor mean that the rest of the camera parts would have to change also and therefore making it too big of a task? Or that it would change the rest of the specs?

And just back to the original point of this thread - hell yeah I signed up. The Nov. 3rd graphic on the home page is orgasmic.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm surprised to see how many people expect the Scarlet to be an S35 sensor camera...
Me too.

I have to say though, I won't be at all surprised if on November 3rd we hear an update on Epic-S. When Jim posted very early in the year, Epic-S was about a month or so behind Scarlet in the plans. Now, with parts apparently catching up, it wouldn't surprise me if Epic-S sees the light of day before the end of the year.

If anything, this will serve as a general tool to gauge demand for Scarlet. Wouldn't it be interesting to the numbers right now.

I need S35 for what my clients want, so im praying that RED makes a S35 Camera that I can afford. I have about 15K to spend. I may need to go to Canon as much as it pains me to say it, If they are both around 7K then im getting both.

Why would it pain you to say that Canon is an option. It's time to stop being silly around here.

Full frame, interchangeable, "cheap" good glass, full sensor scan (no skipping), records to cheap media in small file sizes, excellent battery times, light weight and relatively small, pretty nice dSmc capability =), can see in the dark ISO performance...

They are all just options.

Redcode RAW is the tear of the Unique Horn for me. Resolutions is great, but also adds weight, so if your client don't need it and you don't need future proofing, it's not ALL good.

Done. Thanks for the info...

Reading a press release stating that "On November 3rd at 6pm PST, details surrounding our third camera SCARLET will be announced..." hints to me that there will only be one camera and not multiple versions. Would you guys agree?

I think you're reading too much into that. I stopped guessing...it's gonna be what it's gonna be, and that's fine by me : ).

Your right, I would really like REDCODE RAW. Also I feel RED is more of investment than Canon. Just feelings I have..

You are probably right.
