  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will Scarlet be capable of long recording times?

I'd hazard that the cost of dropping frames on a scarlet filming a doc will be less than the cost of an epic dropping frames filming a big action sequence on a $100M feature, so overall scarlet owners could live with less perfection and corresponding cost than epic users can I imagine

I don't think you understand the disparity in speed...it's not a matter of losing a frame here or there, it's more like it completely chokes and barely manages to save anything.

If I was on a limited budget I might consider buying some used Red Drives until I got the extra cash to buy some SSD cards. Just saying.

NO! No adapter to use EPIC or Scarlet with a RED Drive is being made or planned. EPIC and Scarlet will work with SSD only, or a RED CF in a magazine adapter that will fit into the SSD module. I'll find the reference from Jarred if I have to, but I'm quite sure on this.

I can't find the link but here is the text from Jim sometime prior to April this year.

'We are not going to be making a drive module for the DSMC program. When we came up with that module, we had no sight of the SSD cards and how advantageous they would be. SSD media outweighs the benefits in so many ways, forcing customers to use spinning Drives on EPIC at a reduced resolution and reduced quality settings just didn't make enough sense to continue the legacy.

Just because we like to make things right... we will be offering a trade in program for your RED DRIVES after NAB. We will give you 50% of the purchase price you paid for your RED DRIVE against the purchase of a 256GB SSD card. Hopefully this will help bring you guys forward into the SSD program.'
