  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

iPhone 4S camera sensor actually capable of 4K 24p video

Maybe for one of the 24FPS. Might be a bandwidth issue after that.

Interesting side note: And the sensor in the iphone 4S that (iFixit?) tore down was made by Sony

Meh, it's only a 3.2K sensor. But it's 4:3, so break out the 2X anamorphic lenses!

Technically the sensor is capable of cycling the entire CMOS array at 24fps (actually 30fps), but that means little. There are always limitations to bandwidth, processing power, keeping the sensor cool, etc..

The reality of this is quad-HD ("4K") HDTV's are hitting the consumer market this year. Consumers are going to start demanding QHD/4K camcorders and similar recording / playback devices. It's the natural progression and is accelerating much faster now than such advancements did when 1080p was coming online.

Everyone also needs to pause for a nanosecond and realize that 4K is also not an end and only one more stepping stone to what will eventually be. The fact that my new iPhone shoots 1080p is just one more piece of ammunition I now have against my local competitors pushing HD cameras. I'm going to point the new 4S at a resolution chart sometime this weekend. The video doesn't look bad at all -- amazingly good for a phone. I bet it resolves at least 650 lines.

Thanks Jeff, let us know how that resolution chart goes. With Canon and Red's announcement coming on Nov. 3rd, I'm betting you are right and we will see a shit load of 4K cameras at NAB this year :) Mr. Jannard... this is where you get to say, "I told you so" :)

I just hope 4K will be the new HD soon :)

Ahhh the 4K iPhone.
Coming even sooner than I predicted.

That's what she said! ;) can't you just see Filmtools offering a 2X anamorphic lens adapter with mic input like this?
