Hello RED's,

Any interest in creating a section devoted to users that will use their Epic primarily with Canon and other SLR glass? Where I see most of the current Epic shooters and forum posts being prime lens feature/doc in focus, with the addition of the Canon Mount for Epic, there is coming a wave of DLSR shooters utilizing the 150+ available lenses which will include specialized shooters of sports, wildlife, architecture, landscape, fashion, macro, wedding, fisheye, tilt shift, super zoom, Lens Baby . . . oh you know, the non-prime lens stuff.

This could include discussions about:
1. Technical Issues / Workarounds
2. Creative Applications
3. Rigging / Outfitting / Adapters
4. Field Reports / Comparisons
5. User Video Posting
6. FS / WTB

This could be as simple as a "Sticky" in one of the existing forums or be a titled forum. I'll bump this post from time to time so the Mods can gauge interest.

Yes, interested.

Alt Glass, or Still Glass etc.

What would you call it?

"Alt Glass" is cool since it could encompass all non Prime/PL style glass. But also want to have clarity for the new Canon Mount folks that are coming on board so they quickly recognize the forum as a place for this style of shooting. At the same time, as a matter of respect, we don't want to promote Canon or other brands in your house. Donno, looking for suggestions. Maybe "Epic/Canon Mount & Alt Glass Forum"

Maybe this could work

Canon mount forum

Covers glass, mount, electronics, metadata, lists of lenses as they are updated, rare glass and feature requests, etc.

Later a similar Nikon mount forum should be started for users who are primarily going that route.

Excellent suggestion: Keep the name of the forum simple and instantly recognized such as "SLR Mounting Options" or "Still Lens Mounting." Perhaps with a more descriptive sub-title below the main heading.

I would sure not want an other Forum as with the Scarlet-user forum... As I believe that makes a separation which is not that good, not IMO...

But yeah I believe this would be a good idea, if added here on REDUSER as a SUBSECTION, so that also instead of getting 20/40 emails per day on Canon Mount and Lenses suggestions,
I can reply in one place and every one else will also see it... ;)

Also a good idea because all of those with much experience in Canon Glass can reply and assist positively other new users with questions, as well as publicly having ONe in All place
to relate with what we are doing with EPIC and RED Canon Mount and EF Lenses, Electronically controlled and none.

BTW, this thread is still valid for the EPIC, just make sure to always get the latest "L" glass generation... ;) Best Canon L lenses 4 RED

Hey Guys,

All great suggestions!

• I still think Epic should be in the name. Kinda like the American flag - it should always fly higher on the pole than any other around it. To me the only thing "Canon" about the Forum is the mechanical fit. If the discussion drifts off to Canon cameras then we pull them back in.
• Nikon and other brands can fit on the Epic/Canon Mount with a simple X to Canon adapter. No auto focus etc but they can fit.
• There are 100's of 35mm lenses (going back decades) that can be frankenfitted to the Canon mount creating infinite looks. This is my primary interest in the Epic - bet I'm not alone in this and the reason this Forum is needed and could be very dynamic.

Maybe: "Epic/Canon Mount SLR Lens Forum"
"SLR" since there are lenses from the 1960's that could be retrofitted - really cool lenses made long before there was a "D" before "SLR"

Good Idea is to maybe call it; Epic's unheard of ability to accept "Alternative to PL Mounts"...it really is an amazing feat that others are afraid to try. However, Red isn't afraid, they know they are the best and to support their customers in unheard of ways they allow alternative mounts to work with their camera system. Let's see anyone else have the balls to do that.

maybe the name should be based on the type of mount and not the manufacture name... something like "Epic/EF mount" and "Epic/F mount". It may be problematic generalizing the mount type with the name of a manufacturer. As Josh points out with "Canon" in the label we may vaguely open the door to all things Canon; cameras and even Canon PL glass.... and other companies manufacture EF lenses. The mount type is what needs to be identified. I also think their needs to be a separate sub category for both EF (canon) and E (nikon) mounts.

Or just blow off the "Canon" term: "Epic/SLR Lens Forum" Yup, I like that better.

Now if the Scarlet has an interchangeable lens mount then we need to go with "RED/SLR Lens Forum" . . . I guess Jarred could clear this up for us with a sneak peek at the specs ; )

Or have an EPIC "main" section, and then a breakdown to: EPIC FOOTAGE, EPIC MOUNTS, EPIC RIGS, EPIC ACCESSORIES also do the SAME for SCARLET..

The easier it is to find info, the less posts about the same thing are created..

Why not change the name of the "Lens Test" forum to "Lenses" and be done with it?

Tom n da house! I thought you, like Edward, slept during the day and worked at night ; ) Looking forward to your big show - when does it release? How about a pre-release showing on RED Studio's 40' 4K screen? Could be a charity benefit - I would pay $$$ for a center seat!

I feel we should specify the "SLR" term since the "Lens" only term encompasses too many categories. Lowe, Bloom and LaForet followers are the target for this forum. A generic "Lens" section includes big dogg cine lens which is a completely different catagory of equipment, shooting style and users.

I think the Lens Test forum is fine for what it is. Maybe we could also have a "Lens Discussion" forum too. I don't see the point in additional marketplace forum. The other techniques and whatnot discussions often fall into the realm of the Cinematography forum area...
