Just shot my first project with Mics running into the camera (Epic-M) vs. a standalone recorder. Now we are looking to post, and after trying Premiere, Final Cut, and Avid, we see that none of these can open Epic files native and play the audio. Is there any NLE out right now that can open and edit the native Epic R3Ds with sound? Premiere rocks with the files sans sound.

I know we can export from Red Cine Pro and transcode and the audio will come through. But looking for a native solution. We are going to try smoke next.

Thanks for the help.

Next version of Avid MC supports Epic, out soon... PM me if interested in beta.

Adam, can premiere now also import audio when it is part of an R3D file? The last I heard Adobe said the ability to do this was not in the SDK they received from Red and therefore not possible without an additional step of exporting from RedcineX. To my knowledge there is no word as to when this will be available.
Since Premiere works with R3D video so well, it is surprising it can not import the audio directly as well.

We are going to try smoke next.

You may need to look at the Smoke 2012 Subscription pack for that. I believe that is the first Smoke, that utilizes the latest Red SDK and is capable of working with HDRx images. Earlier versions do not.
