Hopefully an easy answer for the DIT veterans!

I was using a demo of R3D data manager on a set last weekend. We did 4 transfers the first day and 3 the second. Out of the 7 transfers, 5 of the transfers had RDC files that were not verified. They played back in RCX (most of them, there were 2 mysterious offline clips). Shooting Epic-M to 128 GB SSD's.

The wrench in the whole thing might be that we're using our MBP 17" to monitor and do some very basic CC on set before transfer. Would that cause a verification error with R3D DM?

Just a bit scary to transfer files and have the client walk over only to see a large X on the screen claiming "errors".

Trying to determine if it's the best solution (though at $80 still seems to be a good deal)

Any input appreciated.
Thanks,

I'd tell you but I'd have to bill you...

An MD diagnosing a patient asks about a dozen questions before even beginning to attempt a diagnosis...it's like you're telling the doc "Doc, I don't feel good" and expecting the doc to tell you, based on that, what's wrong

Any answers you might get, based on the information you provided, would be worthless

I replied to your email requesting information, and never heard back.

Generally its best to wait for the transfer to be done before bringing files into RedCineX. But you can use your method, and just enable the option 'report errors on R3D files only'. Once you open the clip in RedCineX a RMD file is created with the R3D files in the RDC folder. This file has the latest look that you have applied to the image, and is not present on the original Red Media. So by definition, thats a difference, and R3D Data Manager catches it. By enabling that option in R3D Data Manager it will warn you that other files are different, but it will only report errors when the R3D file (the holy grail of your shot) is corrupt.

Also, you can disable auto-writing RMD files in RedCineX, which would have the same effect, but Id still recommend waiting until after transfer to open files, or worst case opening files in RedCineX before transfer, then after closing the open files in RedCineX starting your transfer.

Thanks Conrad. I must have somehow missed your email, sorry about that. I appreciate the reply, that makes sense to me.
