Next week at CEATEC Japan trade show (Oct 4-8) Sharp will unveil 4kHD (3840x2160) consumer TV sets which will ship in 2012. They'll be LCD larger than 60". No price has been mentioned.

Sharp will also show a 95" 8K x 4K (7680x4320) LCD screen.

No telling what the prices on these panels will be - but they are pointed at the consumer market, so I'm assuming they'll be somewhat affordable. It would be way cool to have some affordable UHD panels to view full-pop Epic footage on :-))

That's interesting. Would be nice to have some content that can use all that 8k....Monstro...maybe? Obviously Sharp knows something :)

Steve,

Great post. I thought the journalist might be more accurate in the second line of the article title to distinguish the fact that 4K content is available...however, the networks haven't been able/willing to push that signal to the homes.

I was hoping that Jim's previous broadcast TV prediction (can't find the link right now) was going to happen sooner rather than later, but it looks like the networks have been slow to invest in the required infrastructure.

I would much rather see this than a dim 3D television.

Very interested to know the price of that 4K model!
