This was shot with Epic X # 126 using the RED Zoom 18-50mm f2.8 lens. The event was one that Bear Mtn. resort puts on every year to kick off the winter season. All the snow was man made. Was shot in 5K and 2K and edited on Adobe Premiere Pro using the Epic camera plugin.

Nice man. Wish I could have made it this year. Thanks for posting

Nice! I think I remember seeing one of your other slomo contest videos a long time ago. Back when it was only 120fps ;)

This year was pretty good. Just a lot of drunk people tripping over tripod legs.

Yeah, I think that was back in 2008 when I shot this last time...and yes that was all 120fps. Being able to have 5K FF 96fps is pretty sweet. I did get some vignetting on the RED Zoom 18-50mm but I was kind of expecting that.

BTW, your leather side handle rocks. Was really nice when I had to carry the camera around and when I was shooting handheld.

Ouch. There was some terrible snowboarding all over that video. A few shots looked like decent riding. Was hoping for more seeing as the Dawg in Hot Dawgs was created when we used to premiere our films up there at the event during its early years.
I suggest getting more selective with your shots so the riders look like they know what they are doing. Also the DK's track seemed way to fast for all that slo-mo. How did you clear that track BTW? I have heard it has been really hard to clear the Dead Kennedys lately. Wnen I cleared that track for "The Meltdown Project" montage the band's relations were pretty good.

Oh, I never said that it was amazing snowboarding. This was just footage I got at the event. Some of which is being used by Arbor snowboards and I guess is going to be on Transworld's site. But I know the type of work you do man and "Upping the Anty" is one of my favorite snowboarding videos.

As for the clearance on the song, it's under fair use and isn't being used for any type of commercial use. Just like most of the little videos that people post on here.

Hate to say it but there was some nice examples of streak flares in some of the shots ;)

cool video man, some sweet shots. thanks for sharing!

...i'm just not sure how i feel about where some of this street riding has been going. a few years back it was all about how many f*ing switch ups you could do, and now there's guys feeling they have to throw a ridiculously spun 1440. i've just always been about natural riding and at least natural movements. it may sound silly to some people, especially fellow riders on the xtreme end of things... but riding has always been about beauty of motion to me, at least when an audience must be involved. kind of like dance and ballet. i'm certainly not trying to make any judgements, at least these guys are having a good time with their friends, i'd just hate to think they were missing out on the kind of progression that takes place in the mind and the soul. but i guess everybody does life differently, and that's what makes it so wonderful sometimes :)

anyways, back to your awesome work. good stuff, keep progressing ;)

For sure I never hate on a dude for making any shot. I just thought the snowboarding needed to be cut back so the riders did not look bad. It's constructive critisim. The way any rider makes their way into the video scene is with solid shots of solid tricks. If you run subpar tricks of people it makes them look bad and lessens their chance to make it to the next level. That is just the way it is. Hope that helps you understand where I was coming from.

Mike, I have no idea what I was writing last night. That was a 5:30am, 2 bottles of wine comment. Note to self, stay off RU after drinking.

I think I was probably trying to say that the clip wasn't trying to be Picture This, it is just a Vimeo clip showing snowboarding a 300fps.

We'd better get used to it, I'm sure every man and his monkey will be over cranking this season, after seeing The Art of Flight.

So I'm guessing since you own an Epic, you're still shooting? In snowboarding?

Richard I wish I had 2 bottles of wine last night. Yes I have an Epic M and soon a Epic X. Not planning on shooting snowboarding this year unless it is a favor called in by the People crew. Been freelancing tons and still working on the Daredevil documentary which is a personal project. Yesterday I was shooting Brian Deegan training for a boxing match and Jimmy Fitzpatrick back flipping into a lake out of a helicoptor 95 feet above the water for the Mulisha movie Black Friday coming out this fall. I am used to the overcrank although it is used far to much for my taste as well. Andrew I was not trying to harsh on your scene at all. I just have worked with snowboarders for decades and know that they are particular about shots of them that come out. I know you are just showing a demo but take that into consideration if you want next time.

Its okay man. I didn't think you were too harsh or anything like that. I'm sure its the same kind of thing for you watching snowboarding videos as it is for me watching timelapse videos. I totally understand where you were coming from with the comment.

Andrew,

Cool video... definitely covered the amazing talent these guys/gals have and all the fun they were having; being that it is a preseason rail-jam and is all about fun and not getting shots.

Snowboarding has definitely changed alot since the beginning (as well as these events), and the riders are more diverse (and more wild) than ever before... The backflip off the wallride was pretty intense... that guy definitely has some skill (and balls)... looked like he may have skimmed his head a little bit??

Most freestyle riders I know ride more Powder in a year than most do in a lifetime, it's just there isn't perfect Pow every day, and you can only carve nice lines for so long. I like a mix, carving great lines hitting pow while finding natural hits, I got a level 3(or whatever) concussion on a 40 foot table when I was younger and have trouble going full out on man made hits. for some reason I don't have the same issue with large drops or natural hits though I should as they can be even more dangerous. I think most people appreciate the beauty and fluidity of riding, it's a truly wonderful feeling. When I was young I aspired to be a pro, but could never put in the proper training time living in a big city no where near a true mountain. Eventually I came to terms with my limits and now just enjoy the relationship between me and the mountain and carving that perfect arch, whether it be through a mass of powder or on some fresh cat tracks (with the occasional 3/180, method or stalefish thrown in there).

to each his own, just make sure you keep on riding!
