  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recent Video of TED; mentions Scarlet.

I tell you guys you better be warned, I used to be unbeatable at the old NES game "track and field". Button mashing is my specialty...[/QUOTE] - Sergio Perez

Ching!

Scarlet Purchased!

I definitely want to get deposits placed before the end of the year to beat any price increases, but it may take a few months afterwards to gather the shekels.

How does this work?

Were able to place a deposit and when our Scarlet is ready to ship we pay the remaining amount? For what ever reason say your finances aren't in order will that Scarlet still be held out for you as long as they still have your deposit?

This is a general question to anyone who is able to fill me in on the process of ordering items from RED.
Thank you

Andre,

You can sign up/register for an account now over at RED.com.

I've already done so. My understanding on how the order process works is that you pay the deposit up front with your credit card. After this when they come to your order, and it's ready to ship, your bomb squad rep(sales rep) will contact you to inform you your order is ready for shipment/delivery. At this point I believe you have 30 days to pay the remaining balance on your RED account to take delivery of your order.

Thats how I have come to understand it. So I'd imagine if you order one right out of the gates...I'd make sure you have a good amount of money ready to go within 30 days of placing your deposit (10%) I'm preparing for $1000 on my card, and another 10-12 for the rest of the payment and accessories. It could be more...or less. We don't really know.

Thank you Jeffrey,

Account opened, I'll prep for my deposit. Right now I think I'll go with the Interchangeable* brain only. I wonder if the $2750 quote in the Viddler video still stands. Let alone what accessories for the Epic are compatible with Scarlet given the size difference between the models.

I'll speak with a Rep. to see what's possible. My concern is a mix between maxing out the card- paying it off-maxing it out and the time it takes to reflect back on the card to purchase more.

Hell, the more and more I try to figure the setup I'm going for the accessories cost more then the camera itself then again they'll work with EPIC when I'm ready to make the leap.. Clever RED.

Agreed, its very enticing knowing you'll have alot of accessories already. I may only buy one out of the gate, but plan to own 2. My focus is on accessories after my first camera purchase, the ones that will rise in price that is.

If that camera is the same I'd expect it closer to $3750 with the HDRX added in. But what do i know?

What's funny is that after 3 and a half years of pouring over specs and discussing options I just realized today that we'll have a full 60 minutes to digest the info before ordering opens and we have to decide whether or not to be in that first wave of Scarlet owners.

(For the record, I don't expect it to be a tough decision)

I was thinking exactly the same thing today, and although I will surely go Red, we won't really have time to digest whatever Canon announces, it'll be a leap of faith in a way...

Hey, Ketch. Which would you recommend to a beginner between a fixed lens Scarlet and the interchangeable lens mount Scarlet. This is assuming that both will be offered, of coarse. Why? Thanks.

Depends on what you are shooting. Weddings, short films, movies, sports, documentaries, wild life?

Mainly, indie films both short and feature variety. Some commercials and music videos could pay some bills as well. No weddings as they are too much liability. Don't really get out where wild life is so that would be a fluke.

For narrative film work the most flexibility would be an interchangeable lens system. You can get very fast lenses when there is minimal light or you want some shallow depth of field, you can get very wide lenses when there is not much room to physically back the camera up, and you can use prime lenses instead of zooms to get the sharpest image.

That being said, a fixed lens cam could still produce fantastic results.

If you're doing weddings, wild life, sports, ENG run 'n gun, you generally dn't have time to worry about switching lenses, and moving the camera to frame your shots, so a zoom fixed lens is great.
