I'd like to see a 2/3 sensor camera that shoots raw. I'd like to see it shooting somewhere around 120fps and maybe above. Would be sweet if it's shooting 3k too.

If any of the above is possible, it would be nice if it were in a tiny form factor, but I guess I'm just dreaming... oh wait... :)

Who said there was going to be a Scarlet change? I don't remember anyone from the Red team specifically saying there was going to be a change. They have never released all the specs or price point so what makes anyone think there will be a major change?

Because they did say they are going to release all the changes they have done to the scarlet on Nov 3rd and that the changes would only benefit us more... where have you been LOL???

In reverse Chronological order, newest to oldest...

When we announce the changes, we will be ready to ship. And you are now officially on the do not ship list. :-)

Jim

Changes for the better... what other way could it be?

Jim

What a big day! RED announces the new Scarlet. Canon announces "something really important to Hollywood". Everyone wins.

November 3rd is the day that RED announces all the changes to Scarlet and shipping info. You get to see the future Nov. 3rd. You get to compare RED's latest directly with the newest from one of the "big dogs" in the industry. What a day!

I'll certainly be watching!

Jim

There are some monumental changes coming...

Jim

I think you can assume it applies to everything we have in the works. Our competition has responded to where they think we are going. That changed a long time ago. :-)

Jim

So why do we post that so much?

We talk to you... straight up. Realtime. Just like "thinking out loud". This isn't the way other companies do it. And for good reason.

When we think out loud, we get a response. Often times those responses lead us to a better place. Which = change.

Because we think out loud, you are hearing from us early in the process. Because it is early, it can take some time before products are ready. In that time, the competitive landscape can change. Then we have to change.

Sometimes we are on a path, which we have announced (of course), and we find a better way. That = change.

Many times we announce a product, then realize that what seemed like a good idea... wasn't as good as we thought. Particularly when it doesn't measure up to "our new and better idea". That = change.

If you are a speedboat that never changes its course, you may as well be the ocean liner. Being fast, fluid and flexible means you have the ability to change. And we do.

Everything in life changes. We are just the only ones in this industry that seems to embrace the concept and be proud of it.

Don't let this approach frustrate you. Embrace it. In every instance I can think of, the change was better than the idea or product it replaced.

Now... put your helmets on and expect more change. Like the scorpion... it is our nature.

Jim

I'll bet it's 4k. I mean... they're pushing for THAT to become the new industry standard... right??? So why not make a super cheap (relatively speaking) camera that can start flooding the market with 4k material to suck the display manufacturers into it.

I don't think we will see a 4k 2/3" sensor. There are very few lenses that would support it, none outside of a handful machine vision lenses. If 4K is in Scarlet's future, you can expect a.) 4/3" or S35 sensor, and b.) a price increase. These would have to be mutually inclusive. I think that that is Epic-Standard territory, whatever RED decides to call it. I believe Epic-S has probably went back to the Scarlet lineup (or an altogether new one) with slightly different specs, and 2/3" 3K is here to stay. It's all so very curious. We'll all know in a little more than a month!!! :-)

The "monumental" changes Jim speaks of are not necessarily changes that affect Scarlet, he could be talking about all the exciting things on the horizon. Yes, they say they will announce changes and be ready to ship, but that sounds to me like they are talking about several minor changes, rather than one huge change which is what a different sensor or higher resolution would be. Either way, the whole thing is a mystery. Nobody, outside of Red's inner circle, knows anything about anything.

There could be more than one Scarlet model. 2/3" and larger sensor versions. I guess we will find out on Nov. 3 The fixed lens version will not likely change much, but the interchangeable version could have morphed into something different.

I'm tired of pointing out the benefits of 2/3" to people who don't want to take the time to understand.

for indi low budget crowd 2/3" is a much better format, you want s35, either you have to be playing in the big leagues and lighting and cost wont matter, otherwise by some large sensor camera with a bad codec and considerable compromises compared to a true motion picture camera(or use your current DSLR for the few shots you need shallow depth of field and the scarlet for everything else).

no offense but to each their own, and to me this camera has been and hopefully always will be aimed at a section of the market I'm happy for them to fill, I would hope it isn't changed just to meet the current trend of what is cool from people who are still learning what they need and how to use it. (hey I'm there to but options is nice and 16mm has been around a while so I can't understand why people don't want this option, seems they just want a cheap epic...)

sorry if I went overboard I'm just pissed with all this there is a place for 2/3" and 35, stop trying to get red to make a DSLR replacement under 10k, it might happen I just hope not at the sacrifice of a 2/3" model as well as it will be very useful in my opinion to the very people complaining about it they just don't realize it yet. Red may not make it, it could be s16mm sized I'd love that, thing is there will still be a need for it in this market and I would be greatly upset (though I'll still buy what they offer I'll still need a smaller sensor for my run and gun and nature work).

P.S. cost is a factor, storage, lenses, mounts(2k each) lighting(if you want things in focus...), and general ease of use in a small production or one man crew, got bigger jobs to shoot rent or buy and epic! prices will come down eventually but considering what red is offering compared to it's competitors they are doing very well.

have a good one!..... and sorry most of this is from built up frustration from reading posts on DVXUSER and cinema5D not really people here.

p.s. I don't know what I'm doing yet either so bare with me I mean no offense

Ur right who says you need s35 to make a good Short film or anything for that matter if you got the talent it won't matter how much dof there is, good movies are not made by s35 or dof but by the ppl that have the talent to tell them well, IMO.....I luv the Scarlet no matter what the have added or taken away...

to name some recent , The Wrestler, Hurt Locker, Babel, Black Swan, City of God, March of the Penguins... Some of them entirely 16, some digital and 16, some 16 and 35

I didn't vote. I think it's none of the above. Hehe
Haha you must know Joseph. I'm hoping the "great price" ones can be true :)

I'm right there along with Stephen. I have very few instances where I want a really Shallow DOF. DSLR's can be a nightmare in fast shooting situations sometimes. I really want the flexibility of the ONE lens.
