Scarlet in Sept Jim?

I don't get all the negative posts.

First of all Red has no previous experience with mass production, they are starting to get some with the new Epic X line. So, that one is sorted for the Scarlet when the time comes.
Second they had some issues with the lens, I have a feeling once they put their mind to it, they can fix that quite fast. I think they made their move to not giving that much detailed future information because they are nearly there for the Scarlet and did just deliver the Epic X. So, what is the point in saying it will be 4 weeks, when all people do is complaining about delays.

I still think it will be here sooner than most of you expect.

A. you may or may not "get it" based on your join-date of May 2011
B. Jim, the owner of Red, is Jim the previous owner of Oakley. Yeah, that Oakley the one that started some 30+ years ago.. Trust me, Red has experience with mass production.
C. Do you really believe the last "lens issue" is and engineering problem? It's a part sourcing problem and if the manufacturer of that part does not have a set delivery date, neither does the release of Scarlet. It could be another year based on the "Japan effect" alone.

A. Agree, or... I'm just more of an optimist* / naive one* (*cross off what you think is best)
B. Mass producing Scarlets is something different then what Jim did before... and the numbers of the Scarlets (if they bring it to the market in time) could be huge
C. Well, if you are right and it is a manufacturer issue, why not hold the Fixed for now and go for the one that does not even has a lens... It's either a true issue or a hoax to keep all waiting and I'm not buying it that Red would tell a hoax.

I have no insight info, I just read the forum in my optimistic* / naive* way and hope to be right. I can understand some have the feeling, been here before and then it started all over. One thing I do know for a fact... Time will tell :emote_headwall:

Regarding the "lens issue" - I think there is a something of a logical fallacy going on, here.

Yes, the last specific update we had about these cameras discussed a lens issue. But that was some time ago. We don't know what has occurred since. Obviously the cameras haven't shipped yet, so there is something holding them back, but it definitely doesn't have to be the lens issue. There could be some other sort of supply issue, some sort of manufacturing issue, a design problem, or a million other "bad things". Or it could be that the Scarlet is right on track, and everything is going - more or less - according to plan; late, granted, but with no immediate unexpected impediments.

And it's this latter case which I believe to be the larger portion of the truth. I think Jim and the team have everything pretty well in-hand at this point. But before they can move any further along on the Scarlet Fixed...or Scarlet Cinema, or Epic-S, or even upgrade the Epic-Ms (weight loss program) they have to get the assembly for Epic-X taken care of. That we have been told, repeatedly and recently.

I just don't understand the point to being upset that Scarlet isn't out and that we don't know when it will be out. It won't do any good. RED isn't going to say, well, geez, these guys are all upset, let's release Scarlet now. I'm sure they will release it as soon as they can. Until then, if you need to shoot, get a different camera. People have been saying that for over a year because it's the only thing one can say or do. Getting upset won't do any good. It'll be here when it's here.

11.11.11 would be cool.

Shh, stop tempting him, we all know that is the release date of the next model :wink5: . No, only joking, but I hope it is not that long, the 4k displays are just coming late.

Being happy won't help either, but this is a forum where thoughts and feelings are shared, and sometimes - just sometimes - this whining actually helps squeeze out a tiny bit of information.

+1.

Some of us may be fairly new here but Jim answered your OP in the 2nd post of this thread.

I don't think you "get it".

This is a misunderstanding about the manufacture of the camera.

It is harder to design and ship the interchangeable camera than the fixed lens. The interchangeable camera is a completely different design than the fixed lens camera. It is not just the fixed lens camera with a different lens mount.

Ever notice that MOST video cameras do not have interchangeable lenses?

With a fixed lens, the camera can be calibrated to work for that one lens. With an interchangeable lens camera, it must be able to work with different lenses which is a more complicated piece of engineering.

That's my understanding anyway. The Scarlet fixed with no lens is just a piece of junk. It has to be completely redesigned so it can work with multiple lenses.

Hence the stream of questions I have. I'd like to get it, got it? Scgood : )

Oh, I totallly understand that, and I'm as anxious as anyone, but it seems like the angst and anxiousness has turned into anger and frustration on the part of some folks (not necessarily on this thread, but on some of those in recon), and that's just not going to do any good. Believe me, I've been anxiously awaiting Scarlet for over two years and I'm a certified Reduser junkie, so maybe what I posted was just a little self-therapy.

Wow, I don't even know what to say other than people are crazy and have wild expectations from red.

Jim answered you, that's that deal with it, weather you have been here since the origin of reduser the announcement of the red one or even back at the initial talks of the possibility of some new camera coming down the pipeline on DVXUSER was it? we should all understand we are closer than ever and all this talk is getting us nowhere, check in look for info and leave, rinse and repeat until it's announced, rather simple if you ask me. Yes whining and complaining will occasionally get some info released but look at it like this in the years we have been watching the scarlet development name one hint that was dropped in reply to a rude comment that still matters now, HDRx... no, DSMC line.... no, now if you can think of one fine I can't. So lets all just look at what we can actually control and do and stick with that(shooting, writing, working, editing, living, growing, maturing.... whatever) and stop filling up the forums and every other products announcements(epic red ray redcinex) with posts about scarlet, it will come just chill.

man I had a great weekend relaxing, hope you all had the same.... would have been nice to come back to an announcement but jim's change thread and updates to thoughts and tips is enough for me to know they are still on track.

Peace

p.s. please close this thread!

Hi Stephen, you sound like a friendly fella. Just sayin'

People discussing the Scarlet camera on Reduser forum, wow that is absurd. Yes, we should all just some here, check in and then leave. That sounds like an ace way to develop an online community.

Did you really relax this weekend? You sound a tad tense. Boyfriend troubles?

.... sorry not meaning to offend, just find some of this rather curios. You are correct anyone can post whatever they want they do not have to listen to a word I type I normally post that forgot to sorry. Thanks for the comment on my sexuality that was very relevant.

In fact I'm fine, I'm amazing life couldn't be better. I just get very befuddled when I read the crazy conclusions people jump to on here, and how entitled they feel they are. All I am saying is realize the things you can actually control and focus on that and stop worrying about things that are out of your control or focus on scenarios that you have assumed will come to pass based on nothing but assumptions.

hey I'm all for building the community and adding ideas and insight to the product line, constructive criticism is a wonderful and rare thing. All I'm saying is be patient, you have questions about current knowledge ask the forums and when they answer you trust them or ask for references from posts and not keep tying to pull it out of red(though this has proved troublesome as things change fast so all you can say is "the last we herd").

Mah whatever I'm just trying to calm people down and make them look at the reality of the situation but it seems many can't, most likely neither am I. I just find it funny the way people act and treat red compared to just about any company that has ever existed in history it's like it's a religion with all the good and the bad, I'm just getting a little tired of it(the crazy entitlement that is).

hey I'm most likely horribly wrong on many areas I'm just saying to calm down keep an open mind and stop wasting time here.... ah crap I'm the one.... ah well off to do some writing, post and editing.

I really only want the best for everyone and never mean to offend and if I did I apologize, I know we are all frustrated, I'm just frustrated with how people are dealing with it, and I think I have just as much of a right to feel that way as others.

Peace and happiness to all and to all a good creative night!

P.s. tone on the internet sucks, I guess my post reads like I'm a tense grumpy guy but it's far from the truth, it's more of just surprise at the way people are acting, I understand it, it's just rather surprising. oh and Richard from what I can tell the scarlet development for the most part is done now it needs to get to market then feedback will be of great value, though I do get your point, I'm just saying if you are tired of waiting and hype do my rinse and repeat, though like I said no one had to listen to me it's just an idea.

What won't change is shipping EPIC-X. If everything else on your list changed, you shouldn't worry. It would be for the better.

Jim

It seems there are more interesting things to speculate about Scarlet then its release date :-)
Maybe sensor size - that would have huge implications on the lens, but I believe RED is capable to do the changes this year.

Sensor size, or perhaps even resolution size... or both?? who knows. Then again... if they are almost there... would they change it again?

Well, I hope nothing changes! But as you can see in the quote, it sounds as everything could ( I feel will :-) change besides EPIC-X.
