  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Heard of Epic-M not booting

We've had this problem as well...happening twice.
With our second body, we shot a single test day after having recieved it. the next day it would just start the fan and run for one sec then shut down. Tried different power sources (12v Epic psu, redbrics, IDX enduras), removing side module handle. Went back to RED UK. Took 12 days to fix.
This week we had it happen once more....same camera different battery system. But after rebooting 10 times or so, smoke was suddently appering. :rolleyes5:
Power source this time was a single IDX endura HL9 on a RED power plate, with thew supplied power adaptor, and no acessory on the powertap.
Could be a faulty power regulator or something. It's currently on its way to USA.

Our second body has been pretty solid, with the occational powerspikes & image tearing with magnify. But very very usable in production and fun to use :-)

Hope they find the source of this problem...fast. The Epic has so many strong abilities, but hardware failure is so hard to manage when unprovoked.

Please email me directly next time.
Reduser is not a good channel to effectively get quick support.

Update:
We got one of the cameras back and found the source of the problem to be a rare combination of settings that affected the camera startup.
Tomorrow we will have a firmware update to prevent this from happening.

deanan at red dot com ?

Thanks for reporting back Deanan. It's good to know that you guys are all over this stuff and resolve things in hours.

Great work.

I am right in middle of shoot with less than 3 hours of shoot time left and Epic has done this. Cannot upgrade firmware as it won't turn on.

Help!

Would be good to know which firmware has been installed, if this is indeed a firmware glitch.
Just to avoid that build...

Cheers!
And all the best!

Philip,

Then said to take off the side handle and even the SSD magazine.

It's important for everyone to go up to 1.6.32 as soon as possible.
It prevents this from happening. Thanks.
