I have been annoying the **** out of my bomb squad rep (though he is too nice to say so) with emails lately. Thought I would throw this out there for someone to think about...

I basically keep coming back to the same problem....

If someone wants to sell their Epic Stage 2 (or 3), they must...

1. Take delivery of a brand new epic from RED
2. Send a brand new epic back to RED
3. RED checks to make sure the brand new camera is in working condition
4. RED changes ownership
5. RED ships the camera to the new owner

If the camera is fully paid for, could the owner not just tell RED to send it to someone else? Skipping 1-3. Therefore negating two shipments...bettering both the environment and pocketbook.

I know it makes sense to me, but maybe I'm completely off the mark.

I'm in this camp. My stage two camera is not "technically" mine, because the R1 is not in my name either. I paid for it and have been using it for 3 1/2 years (I'm the only one who ever owned/used it) but never legally transferred ownership, I got caught with my pants down on the Oct. 30 deadline a couple of years ago. Now my new Epic (which I also paid for) won't legally be mine either. I might have to send it right back as soon as I get it and do the transfer thing.

I have already purchased and taken delivery of an "M". I will get the stage two Epic X (which is in my friends name) and then I'll get another Epic X on stage three with a trade in on another R1 that is mine. Stages 1, 2 & 3, three Epics in all.

Sure, just have your rep invoice you for the gear and not ship it. They can send the request to the team that handles transfer of ownerships to process. Then once processed, can ship to new owner. Of course, the transfer will be subject to all applicable transfer of ownership fees and terms.

EDIT: Stage 2 and Stage 3/3.5 terms say original customer has to take delivery before transfer process can start.

Hi Brent!

Does this procedere also work with Stage III?

Since the camera is new and doesn't need to be rechecked, only a bit of paperwork, might it be possible that there could be a reduced transfer fee and full warranty? It would seem arbitrary and punitive to have to pay $700, or whatever the standard transfer fee is, and lose 9 months of warranty when all that's changing is the name on the account/receipt. Not trying to be provocative, just asking a question and giving an opinion.

I've also have been wondering about this

It would great to have a cheaper transfer fee but more importantly is maintaining a full warranty for a brand new camera.

Any comment Brett or other bombsquaders?

Cheers
