can someone please give me step by step on how i can convert my R3D files from my EPIC to quicktime files so i can edit in final cut pro?? the easiest and fastest way if you can ....

THANKS

1. Get a red Rocket card.

2. Use Redcine X.

That will be both the easiest and fastest way.

1. shoot epic
2. remove card & copy to HDD
3. take R3d files into RCX
4. give clips a "look" in RCX
5. when complete pull files into bin or timeline & edit in/out
6. in EXPORT - set a transcode type: prores 422HQ or 4444 with chroma enabled and gamma set to NONE
7. go to export; click export; set destination and wait for transcoded files.....

....redrocket card is almost 1:1 transcode time....

Yes you can. Make sure you select the option to use the original file name. In FCP you edit the ProRes QTs, then save an XML (or EDL if using multicam), open it in RCX and show it where the original R3Ds are. Works great, I do it all the time!

Same thing with Davinci Resolve.

Jean, if you are just editing offline so you can come back to RCX to do your final, better to use Pro Res LT (log and transfer) as it's much easier to work with and smaller file size.

In EXPORT, push the "+" change the file type to QUICKTIME and click SET UP, which is to the right. In the next box click VIDEO SET UP and put in all the details you want.

Make sure you selct OUTPUT WITH CLIP FILENAME TO SELECTED FOLDER and choose an output folder. This is where your new QuickTimes will live. You can export audio with it if desired.

After you edit and come back, select the original R3D folder and it will relink perfectly.

Does your export QuickTime setting match your R3D aspect ratio? If you shot 2:1 and your QT res is 16:9 you could get this.

The grey bar means that you have enabled a TC burnin setting.

Take some time to READ the FCP WHITE PAPER available on RED>COM SUPPORT and follow one of the reccomended workflows. All the same rules apply for FCP 7.

Really. This information is all available from RED.

This is an excellent discussion -- I think the moderators should make this one a permanent sticky for the thread.

This topic has been covered almost six ways from Sunday by now. If you really need an end-to-end tutorial with step by step instructions you should consider hiring a post production team or person to just do it for you. In fact, consider just using Premiere CS5.5 - No transcoding req'd!

The secret for a speedy FCP work flow is once you go into FCP you stay there...

Here is a quick video of what you can get in a few seconds using REDLOGFILM / REDCOLOR2 PRO RES FILES...
