Hey guys,

Thought I'd share our the latest piece of media.
Stillmotion stopped by the shop last week so we had a bit of fun with his Epic. Granted, he was only in town for a
few hours so he did a quick overview of the camera, talked about work flow and their latest shoot at Shedd Aquarium -
you'll probably get a kick out of their 120 fps jellyfish footage.

Very pretty...jellyfish are really magical little creatures.

It's also interesting to hear how they are adapting to EPIC and why they have chosen to use it.

Great! I am curious about your setup. I see you had lights that you used to illuminate aquarium from inside. What kind of lights and where did you position them? How did you deal with scratches on the glass? I know the main large aquarium at Shedd has lots of scratches. Thanx.

Here's a link to a brief BTS on the Shedd video - they do talk lighting a bit. http://vimeo.com/27818488 I'll ask Patrick next time I talk to him for some more information on the lighting and how they dealt with the issues you refer to.

hey radim

the reef was by far our toughest setup. we had to be out by 8:30am when they opened and lights couldn't go on before 7am as the fish have a every specific day-night cycle. so we lit at 4am, lights on at 7- shooting at 7:45. very tight and lots to do. there is about 20 lights for that one wide shot with 3-4 for the tank. no light were physically in the water but we did use a couple 4K hmis a our main lights on slicing from the side and the other in the top shooting down.

we shot close to the glass and super shallow so scratches were never an issue - it was always reflections that were the tough thing

Patrick, thanks for the answer. This gives me an idea what it takes to work with Shedd and other aquariums. I would love to see a screen grab from your tank footage, if you get a chance sometimes.
