Any ideas on what would be a good tripod set up for Epic? Heavier zoom lenses will definitely be used long term plus who knows what modules will be added along the way... so I was thinking of the titanium tripod from http://www.lumatechinc.com/tripods.html which can support 220lbs.

But what head? Any thoughts appreciated.

Hey Kris,

Lots of criteria here. One of the main ones is if you plan to be on your own when shooting, or have grips to move things around for you.

With the lighter weight of the Epic you are better off thinking of your most used configuration.

For me I don't exoect to be more than 20 pounds 90% of the time, probably 15 pounds the majority of the time.

I have the Oconnor and it's fantastic, but it gets heavy when on your own and is possibly overkill for the weight.

I'll definitely be looking into some lighter options for the Epic.

Plus it's costly. If you can find a $3k-$4k solution rather than $7k-$14k there will be more funds for other toys.

Easy to rent a bigger head along with the heavy long lenses on the rare occasions you need it.

The rest of the time you'll be much happier to be more portable.

Don't have a model to recommend at the moment, but feel this info may help in your research!

Great points Jim. I think the Titanium legs would go well with their lower weight and strength and then find a cheaper head for day to day.

Joe, I think the 2065 might be a bit out of my range for now!

No problem Kris,

The Titanium legs sound great, especially if you want to throw a porta jib or something on it. Nice to be able to take any weight you throw at it.

The Miller Arrows have been very popular heads with Red owners and hold the weight of a fully loaded R1 very well.

A friend has had an Arrow from the start but recently found something else he felt would work great on the Epic. Pretty sure it cost less as well. I'll ping him and find out what it was.
