REDCine and HDRx : Is it possible to obtain a good "blended" image

I'd like to know whether it's possible to grade a FINAL HDRx clip from within REDCine. Or does one absolutely have to generate 2 images and composite them in post? Or resort to Resolve? Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jean

Hi Jean,

I'm not sure I completely understand your question. But it is possible to "grade" a clip in REDCINE-X and output a single clip to any of the supported file formats. It's a simple slider that blends the two exposures.

I hope that helps,

Steve

Thanks Stephen. My question was specifically about HDRx...sorry about the confusion. I've been grading clips on REDCine for a while...but not HDRx files.

Then there may be a problem with my REDCine then. When I turn on the HDR Mode to Simple Blend the image changes drastically but the scopes don't budge at all. And when I try to grade the image there's no way I can get a beautiful blend of both tracks, ...unless there's some kind of trick to it. Do your scopes go dead too?
Thanks

Hi Jean,

Sorry, my last post was unclear.

There isn't anything wrong with your software as far as I can tell.

Right now at least the blend tool doesn't change scope values, and HDRX doesn't display the blend output over the hdsdi via the rocket.

I view HDRX as a work in progress.

What I'm doing (right or wrong) is to use the blend tool to get me into the ballpark of what I want, and then using the look control capabilities to fine tune.

If there is a better way to work, I'm all ears. :-)

All the best,

Steve

it appears that's the best way to do it... specially using Magic motion instead of blend.

In Davinci is very similar, but a lot harder to do it!

Maybe harder, but more flexible: you can use any kind of qualifier in DaVinci Resolve instead of y simple mix.

Magic Motion seems to be a lot better than the simple blend. Is that available in Da Vinci?
Or can one export one a and one X track with the magic Motion option and blend them manually with the motion estimates right?
