Hi all, we have planned to install : New DaVinci resolve setup : One of my friend is traveling back to India from Somerset, New Jersey on Saturday . Ha is ready to buy required items from store (vartotechnologies or ) ,

i have posted here since it was very short notice :

1. DaVinci Reolve 8
2. Blackmagic DeckLink HD
3. Tangent wave Panel will be purchased

we need help in deciding Monitoring option : Please suggest ...

a. Buy Blackmagic Ultrascope PCIe ...??? to use with Dell U2410
b. Buy HDLink Pro DisplayPort and use Dell U2410 Monitor

or i am ready to swap Apple LED Cinema Display ( 27" ) if any of above works out .

( no plan to buy HD-SDI as we already have one Panasonic 17" which is accompanied to go along with RedOne Rental Kit most of time)

Jake is right the internal scopes are good. but you should run them on a large display same as the main GUI display. I dont recall the size 1920 x 1200 I think but best check.

ultrascope is pretty good if you only work with HD content, but tells you very little if you are working with 4k RAW r3d's. internal scopes a pretty spot on. as for a color grading mon, I'd recommend a Flanders Scientific. I personally just a HP Dreamcolor which works great but I'll be switching to a Flanders soon and only using my dreamcolor for on set one lights.

+1 for the Flanders. Or a good plasma.

The DELL displays, Apple displays and even the 17" Panasonic, are not up to snuff for serious color work. Whatever display you get, make sure you have a way to calibrate it.

Internal software scopes are the only way to see what's going on with RAW and expanded color space data within the application. External scopes are good for monitoring your output, testing external LUT application, etc.. You will/should be doing most of your reference for actual color grading off of the internal scopes.

If you buy a card for monitor output, the BMD Decklink HD Extreme 3D+ is currently the one BMD recommends for Resolve. Works great.

I also recommend the Flanders. For the Dell setup you are looking at a 3K+ investment when you look at also getting the adapters. That price is really close to the Flanders LM-2461w which I'm sure you can purchased use and then have Flanders calibrate it for free.
