Tripod for Epic and other cameras

[Andrew McCarrick]

I'm looking for a tripod suggestion for a full Red Epic set-up. The tripod will initially be used for a full Sony F3 rig, then Reds and Arri Alexas.

What about the Cartoni Focus HD Video Tripod Head:

and

Vinten 3883-3 Two Stage Aluminum Tripod with 100 mm Bowl:

To much, not enough?

Seems like it might push the limit if I were to use an Arri Alexa... Yes?, no?

Panther T45, the lightest of the Heavy Weight bunch, also my favorite

Ia am using the Oconnor 1030 HDs and Gitzo 1548 GT Sticks, works great! Even with a fully rigged up Red One or Alexa.

O'connor 1030 too. not to expensive, not too lightweight, not too heavy.

Hi Andrew,
It depends upon how heavy your setup can become.

I have the OConnor 1030HDs. Its max carrying capacity is 18.6kgs at a height of 6 inches. I went for it as for my wildlife filming I won't go for a heavy rig configuration and the Epic size is fine for it. I am not sure how heavy an Arri Alexa setup can be. If it is heavier than you may need to the OConnor 2065 or even the 2575.

A small write up about my 1030HDS http://www.indiawilds.com/diary/oconnor-1030-hds-fluid-head/

The Vinten tripod 3883-3 supports 45kgs. It is a 2:2:1 design. I would prefer the Sachtler 100 ENG 2CF HD tripod as it is a 2:2:2 design and greater carrying capacity of 95kgs. You may like to check my write up about it here: http://www.indiawilds.com/diary/sachtler-cf-100-eng-hd-2-cf-tripod/

If you are going for OConnor 2065 or 2575 they have 150mm bowl. So you need to either go for a tripod with 150mm bowl or use an adapter.

Happy tripod hunting.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
