How are people calculating the required storage space on a RAID device for their 5K material shot on Epic? I have a G Tech RAID system and I would like to be able to quote to clients how many hard drives they will require for each job or project. I believe for 3D this will halve the amount of images which can be stored on each drive.

Hey guys, we have been working on an amazing iPhone data calc app called 'KataData' that will support Epic calculations as well as a host of other cameras/codecs out of the gate. We're starting the beta tomorrow and it will be on the app store in a few weeks. Trust me, it's the only data calc app you will ever need.

For EPIC storage estimates you need to specify the compression ratio. At 3:1 compression (the lowest) 1hr of Epic 5k 2:1 would be 473GB. At 18:1 compression (highest) 1hr of Epic 5k 2:1 would be 79GB

Hi Emery
Thanks for the heads up. Do you need some beta testers? Count me in ;-)
Cheers

Hey Ross, sent you a DM to join the beta.

Well, I'd ask to beta test, but... my calculator app is in the approval process right now. ;)

Apple kicked it back to me on tuesday for an interface issue. Hoping to fix it this weekend and resubmit on monday.

Oh, don't get me started on android... OMG... The grass is definitely not greener on that side of the fence. I've had my share of rejections there, higher percentage than with Apple. Not only that, but with the multitude of devices and fragmentation amongst hardware specs, I'm often amazed at how the apps keep churning out. For every android app I've written so far (5 total), I've had to borrow friends to serve as testers or work with the client to open up a beta program, just to get a solid testing base. And you become reliant on hardware manufacturers to adhere to API specs, but sometimes they don't. Nothing worse than thinking your app is fine, only to get a call at 4:00 am because the client just learned the app you wrote them last month doesn't play sound on the new HTC phone that released the night before.

But yeah, if this app is received well, I'll look at a an android port.
