  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Battery operated lights..?

I think the Ianiro IANILED54 lights are prett interesting. They are concentric rings which can be sandwiched together for a single punchy light to fight bright daylight or pulled apart t use as a three-point lighting kit. The whole thing could run for nearly three hours on a single RED brick. There's nmore info on our blog Cine Technica, over at blog.abelcine.com.

I like Cool Lights for an inexpensive LED panel... Joker Bug 400 if you got the money. That IANILED54 does look pretty interesting though...

At NAB I spent about an hour at the K5600 booth and they have a 200 Watt that can be run on Batteries.

K5600 Joker Bug 200 Watt HMI System

"The Joker-Bug 200 has an output comparable to 750/1000 watt quartz fixture, but with a power draw of only 3 amps. This unit has become a standard for small interiors, interviews, documentaries and car shots. The system operates in 110-240V AC environments, or with your 30 Volt Battery Belt."

I have no experience with this kit, but hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. I will look into your suggestions. I don't know if it's just me but with each passing day I realize I need to light less to get better results, generally speaking. Thanks once again.

Hi Mitch, Great video on the Ianiro IANILED54. I love the snap on magnetic diffusion panel they have made for it.

Are there barn door options for it that connect easily to the fixture?

Barndoors for an array light won't really work very well. That's true for any array-like fixture, such as a Litepanels 1x1 or a Creamsource. What does work well is an eggcrate or honeycomb grill. Think of his as lots of little barndoors. I've seen these used successfully on the IANILED54, but I don't believe Ianiro has plans for this at the moment. The light kit has the option of different lenses for the LEDs to switch from wide, medium or spot, which is by far the most effective way to control the direction of the light.

Thank you Mitch. Yes, of course that makes much more sense; to use an egg crate. It is clever that they have different options for wide, medium and spot, so that you are not tied into one decision at purchase.

Honeycombs on LED array soft lights are brilliant.
Pocket Pars, Joker 200s run on 30v battery belts as mentioned and are so versatile.
I take my Joker 400 on every job I do, it's a real gem and with the Source 4 Bug-a-beam adapter it can get me out of any location jam.

These are not at all the same lights - they each have completely different apps - and both are awesome

We now ahave a battery mount for a Creamsource Mini. Takes two V-mount or two AB-mount. Nice light, lots of punch.
