Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any new high speed cameras that are coming to the market? I need something that is shooting around 500fps, but I'm not looking to shell out the cash for the Phantom. I would rent it, but due to the place that I live, the short notice for our shoots and the regularity that we'll need it, it looks like it will be better to buy it. I saw that the Epic is shooting 300fps now, is that the maximum?

Maybe someone that went to NAB knows saw something that looks interesting?

The cameras that I've already found are;

http://ts3cine.com/features/ - This camera from Fastec looks super nice, but is still $30,000. Could be an option though

http://www.megaspeed.ca/ - I can't find too much on this camera from Mega Speed, and the website is pretty crappy. But it looks like a potential at $16,000

Just to be clear, I don't want to know about the Casio consumer cameras. The res just isn't enough for me. If anyone's got any info on the i-speed, I appreciate it, as I can't find too much on the internet.

Any others? Would be good to know

Hey Walter,

Looks like it might be out of my price range, but we'll see. Do you know a rental house/distributor in Austria? I'm in Innsbruck see.

Anyone know the maximum fps for the EPIC? Not sure what they have quoted as a speculative frame rate for the future.

Hey Richard

As I know, there are no distrubutors in Austria. But there is a rental Service in Vienna for Arricam and Moviecam and they have some Reds too.

Stöger Filmgeräteverleih

Maybe that will help you a little bit.

Richard, if you would like to contact me off-forum, perhaps there is a way we could help you out.

The ts3cine looks promising - even at $30,000. But the image gallery looks pretty bad. Does that camera have a 35mm sensor in it? If it does it would be great. But they'd need to convince me it was up to the job by getting a skilled DOP to film some decent example movies. Only then would I commit to buying it. I can't believe companies put all that money into a camera, only to post crap quality movies that are blown out.

Hey Walter,

Renting doesn't really work for us. We're making a snowboard film, and quite often we will be checking the weather will the night before and maybe plan to shoot as late as midnight. We do however have scheduled shoots that we collaborate with resorts on, and they are not really flexible, so renting could work in that situation. I'll give them a shout and see what they're saying.

Danke, Richard

720fps @ 720p doesn't seem too shabby. As yet, nothing has been shot on this camera, as far as I can make out. On the descriptions for the videos, they all say that they're shot on the predecessor. This is a 35mm sensor. If you want to see some really bad sample videos, check out the mega speed website. They are beyond bad. They don't even look like they were shot at more that 60fps.

The price tag of $30,000 is still a bit steep, but then nothing else in that price range (apart from the mega speed) is shooting 720fps.

Decisions decisions

I'm guessing that the EPIC is shooting a maximum of 300fps. Can anyone confirm?
