  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TELECOM NZ "Mobile2011" - shot on EPIC

Thanks, Craig.
Hey what do you mean "Meant to be New Zealand"? it IS New Zealand.

Oops, when I first watched the spot I thought some of the Ad was meant to represent people calling home from overseas - specifically the section with the cab (probably because they used a Yellow cab, which aren't all that common in Auckland at least). I knew it was all shot in NZ, I just figured they were playing some of the locales off as international ones - my misinterpretation.

The client's logo is a spark, so fits with the idea of pushing light at the lens... flare / spark.. yup.
So everywhere I tried to push this idea lf the light being it's own force, a little bit out the control of mere mortals. It's a theme I've continued from my last Telecom NZ spot - "Sunrise/Sunset" (shot on Red MX):

It also happens to be a lot of fun.

It's something I woudn't have pushed so much shooting film, where you can't meter a flare, so you don't know so well what's going down.
It's definitely an up-side of shooting digital for me!

Prior to the shoot, the client looked deep into the director's eyes and said:
"Everyday Extraordinary. That's what it's about".
I told the director that's a fine thing to have as his epitaph, and a good theme for a spot, also.
So I guess I pushed things into a that sense of special light for that reason also.

Awesome, that Sunrise/Sunset spot was also awesome. Glad to hear that shooting digital allows some slightly riskier film making on these sorts of things!

I like it very much, but a bit off Topic, I would love to see the feature you shot 'X'
Is there any possibility for me here in Germany?
Regards
KIM

Edit: I'm not able to find it on Time Warner Demand

The director's living in Berlin for a while... I'm sure he knows. I'll see what I can find out. It was shot on MX, lots of low-light night exteriors.

Beautiful! Thanks for posting. Also loved the other spot where the kids match the sunset on their laptops. I thought the aerials on the first were particularly beautiful, but the entire spot was beautiful.

I read the whole thread so I hope I didn't miss it. That night Aerial is stunning, was it shot with a Master Prime wide open? And was the sky composed?

The aerials in both spots were shot soon at dawn. That night one in Mobile2011 is dawn for night, with town lights composited in. Sky was real. It was a dramatic morning. It was great to get out of LA and shoot some real weather!!!

Yah amazing stuff Mark, definitely worth of inclusion on a future version of the Epic reel :)

Thank you... Will definetly Watch it. I liked the look and the soundtrack seemed to be spot on.
