NO, I'm not questioning Epic as the camera I'have always hoped for... Nor do I deny stage 3 is a generous offer. I'm just wondering if I'll be able to benefit from it , practically. Here's my question to red team, then. I' m going the stage 3 route. I shoot wildlife. Being an indie, I can't afford stage 2.

I'll place my order before prices raise (i.e. 12/011). However, what if I turn in my red one, and then have to wait for the delivery of my brand new Epic and for my new gear to be fully equipped for vital parts and features to be unabled (nikon mount, prerecord), etc.

Due to current rather long term projects, I fear it very likely that I shall be deprived of a camera (or of any camera at all) in some possibly higly unsuitable time of the year (i.e Spring, because I'm a wildlife shooter).

Question then : will it be possible to place the order, wire the funds, and then arrange with red for some suitable delivery time (next Autumn/Summer) ?

Many must wonder like me. Sorry if it's always been answered some place else... Can you point me to the appropriate post ?

I'll throw my opinion if I may.. Look at the number of M's out currently.
Nearly 1000 beta-testers to perfection the X. I'm sure it will be "equipped"
by the time when I get my X's. At least, that has been the plan from the
beginning unless I missed anything down the line.

Good times ahead. Cheers.

When your EPIC-X is ready to be allocated, you will get an email notification to send in your RED ONE. After receiving, evaluating, and confirming your RED ONE is operational, we will then credit you for it then send you invoice for balance due. The sooner you send payment, the sooner we can send you your EPIC-X Stage 3 package. And the sooner the smaller the gap between having cameras in your hands.

This has been discussed and Jim answered... can't find the post where he answered, but I refer to their answer here:

Bottom line: if necessary accessories are backordered or unavailable, you'll be able to postpone sending back your RED ONE and taking delivery of EPIC until everything on your order is in stock and ready to ship.

Brent, it's a dumb question because I *know* RED wouldn't do this to us, but please tell me that (absent any unexpected tech issues with trade-in camera) procedures are in place to guarantee this process will be fast? It would be a Really Bad Thing if this process got backlogged and cameras sat for days or weeks waiting to be evaluated. I'd hope the timescale from sending the RED ONE Fedex overnight to receiving the EPIC Fedex overnight would be no more than a week, tops - assuming no screw-ups on our end wiring funds etc.

Remember, if you're a one-man band like me, you don't have a camera, you don't work.

This is great information thanks Brent. As far as the evaluation process of the RED ONE... what is the criteria? can you expand a bit more on that. Thanks.

Nice info!
Do you have an idea how RED will handle Stage III in Europe? Export a R1 and import an Epic X is a bit difficult because of the taxes. It would be great, if we could trade in R1 in England (Pinewood).

See the first step in the process - we don't email until your Stage 3 camera is ready. Plus, we will schedule notification emails that also take into account inbound QC (ie, evaluating your RED ONE) bandwidth. Those are really the only two things we are in control of. We cannot control when you pay balance of your Stage 3 order. We cannot control the condition of your RED ONE when we get it. So, not much opportunity for backlog on our end.

Remember, Stage 3 is a pretty amazing, generous deal.

I believe their are other posts from Jarred on this. Basically, it has pass our inbound QC process as fully functional. Details other than that are being worked on for the Stage 3 program. When there is more info, we'll post it / email it.

We are also working on this logistics with trying to be able to handle as many EU transactions via RED EUROPE LTD as the goal. A lot of things to consider (original country of export, etc).

Well noted Brent, especially that last sentence!

There are a couple of follow-up questions/suggestions...

1. In the event of an unexpected QC problem (I'm thinking of something like a fault in a part of the camera that we've never used or tested, so had no idea it was faulty - say the USB port for example) will there be a 'user friendly' procedure to handle such? I'm thinking about either an expedited repair process, or (probably better logistically), an option to either add the cost of the repair to the balance owing, or even to add the entire trade-in allowance to the balance owing, to be refunded less the cost of any and all needed repairs - and ship the EPIC immediately? Our camera is working perfectly (touch wood!) but again I'm just thinking of ways to avoid any possible extension of the amount of time without a camera.

2. Do you think it would be possible to offer a 'same day' exchange service by appointment for customers who could come to your facility, or RED Studio? Hand in your RED ONE, have a coffee and hang out while it's checked out, then (assuming all financial matters have been dealt with) walk out with your EPIC package?

Just an idea :-)

EPIC Stage 3

EPIC Stage 3

Hi,
I am also wondering if stage 3 can be done from your any upcoming service centre /support centre in Asia. You may also take into account different customs rules that are being followed in different countries.
Lets see a sccenario in India for my Stage III camera import ........

1. I have to file papers with customs for trade in of my RED ONE.
2. But when you send it back the main problem arises. If you invoice the full value of the EPIC-X package (which you will do as it has to be fully insured) then I have to pay full import duty .
This has happened with me when I got my Red Rocket card with my Mx package. Though I had paid USD3000 under that package for RR I had to pay full duty on yur invoiced value of RR .

So I think lot of things had to be taken into consideration regarding customs and local taxes for various counties where RED had their customers.

Thanks
Harcharan

More details on Stage 3 as they become available. Rest assured, we will do what we can to make it as painless as possible for everyone.

thanks Brent, thanks Mike

thanks Brent, thanks Mike

crystal clear answers, and fair answers as well.

Hi Brent, I would be very interested to know if the price in dollars for Epic obtained from Red Europe would be the same as that of an Epic purchased in the US, or whether the European price would be considerably higher?
