  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I say the above, while hoping to subtlety tell the message that I am glad RED has stuck with the pro market. I'm glad to see their commitment to us.
 
i totally agree with you joseph.
glad red is dedicated to pro's.
lets not forget that the great thing about red is, that they provide affordable tools for aspiring filmmakers and indies too.
waiting for a technical oscar for Red.
 
In fact, there is no "pro" or "soccermom" territory... I have seen beautiful things shot on dvcam by great artists, and big shits shot on 65mm/4k/35mm from huge pros. The gear is just a matter of money, not of talent ;-) Red is selling cameras, and they realized that they couldn't compete with Sony/Panasonic/Canon when it comes to worldwide distribution and support (I don't talk about quality, of course they compete on this aspect, in fact they rule). So they concentrate on a smaller market (the one they call "pro", which is quite a small world indeed).

Same thing for Apple : they're making more money with iPods/iTunes/etc.. than with "pro" softs like Final Cut Pro... so they decided to go the other way ;-)
 
I'm a soccer mom and an original RED reservation holder. I also own the first EPIC-M delivered in the state of Colorado and just wrapped a feature film with it, featuring Malcolm Mcdowell and starring Dean Cain and Natalie Distler: http://www.minds-eyemovie.com

I say the above, while hoping to subtlety point out the flawed logic inherent in false dichotomies.

By the way, why the term "soccer mom" ? It doesn't exist in French ;-)

Cool with marketing to the masses but somethings a miss, I like FCPX, used it a bit but I'm really trying to grasp Adobe a bit more just to be on the safe side that either way I'm alright...

They really should've put full RED support in to begin with just to throw it in Adobes face that their ready to fight...meh ah well...

Scarlet's for rich soccer moms perhaps? lol

heh...it isn't soccer season yet, still a few weeks away.... however, my daughter is involved in a Rocky Mountain Theater for Kids performance on Saturday, hmmm.

I don't have any stills available from the film yet...I just started working on the trailer yesterday. I'll put up a link when it's ready.

While there is often a pejorative connotation to the term, "soccer mums" is simply used to describe those who require cameras etc. for the sole purpose of filming their kids' activities. Many soccer moms have "better" cameras than I do, but they don't exhibit in fine Art Galleries and Museums. They are not "collected". It's unfortunate that there is so often a non rational concern about who is privy to, or qualified to, or has access to, the same tools that we, as "much more important" individuals, do. The greater the opportunities to access decent equipment, the greater the art. There also exists a perverse belief that says if you can't afford it then you are not worthy. Very limited and simple minded stuff. Still, after recently viewing the work of underprivileged kids who were given cameras, I can understand why a few of the "elite", those with little more than a few bucks standing between them and the average soccer mom, fret so much.
Here's to the level playing field.

Hmmm... Soccer Analogies again? Red couldn't compete at the proposed price-point seems more accurate- it's not their specialty and that's fine, no need to bash SoccerMums again...

IF You haven't noticed, US SoccerMoms have "mass-produced" winning US Women's World Cup Championship teams, and the team once again is competing
in the World cup finals Sunday, now against Japan... while, Scarlet is still on the "sidelines" with a Japanese induced injury- tragedy... Ironic?

Joseph, why not gather a crew and film the finals with Red Scarlets in 3D this weekend?

I think their professional accomplishment is one the most under-publicized in US History, and we could all learn from their dedication, Moms included...
 
+1 to what Meryem said... Oh, and since I have the 2nd EPIC-M in Colorado; delivered a couple days after Meryem's, I'm pleased to announce that my cameraphobic wife loves it. She actually wants a scarlet now! And she is a textbook "soccer mom", even though soccer is not the usual sport of choice in our house...

Finner, if you're reading this thread, then damn you. Damn you for starting the whole soccer mom thing. Too bad the forum no longer autocorrects to "hoochie momma", though. That was classy.

Amen, John. Sunday's final is definitely must-see TV (even you non-soccer fans should check it out: Hope Solo is hot). :thumbup1:
