Hi, I'm deciding whether to use an Epic for a comercial shoot next week, but I don't know if I will be able to even edit and grade the footage at all.

I currently use a RED One MX, and they use proxies to edit the footage in FCP, then they export that timeline to Apple Color, and I grade the R3D's files there and render.

But from what I'm reading FCP and Color does not support Epic footage right now.

So, what are my options? I'm a DOP, so I really want to use the camera, but I have to give the editor options on how to edit it and how will I color correct it.

Thanks in advanced.

Thanks! I will do some tests this weekend, I like to grade R3D's files because of the extra level of control you have in Color.

Also, I have never used Redcine X to transcode, so I will have to test the transcoding and grading part as well.

Thanks again.

Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Free version should be out soon I think?

Resolve 8 is awesome, fast, and can do things like split out the HDRx and normal streams into a whole node based blending system etc.

Seems the natural upgrade for a guy using Color? Kinda like Resolve is to Color as Epic is to Red One?

Thank you! Yeah, it seems like I will be moving towards Resolve, the company I'm renting the Epic from is a DaVinci dealer, so I will be testing that workflow as well.

I did some tests today at the rental facility, and they will include the transcode to whatever codec we want, and they are giving us a great rate on their DaVinci to grade it there. They will keep a full backup of the footage, so we only need to deliver the EDL. And I'm gonna have to operate the DaVinci.

Thanks again everyone.
