Some people are never happy. As one of them, here's a few things I'd love to see Red make.

1. A 4k crash cam. A 4k GoPro. Could possibly use up the old Mysterium sensors in a small, rubberised package. Canon or Nikon mount, small range of frame rates, lo-res confidence screen, CF card.

2. Down the track a little I'd love to see Red release a digital back for medium format cameras like RZ67s or Blads. I'd really love a 6x7 once the sensor program is there. Wouldn't have to do motion but Redcode would be a huge benefit to larger format images so we wouldn't have to deal with stupid file sizes. Pity Jim's too late to buy Bronica;-)

3. On the subject of down the track and taming stupid file sizes with Redcode, I would love to see a 4x5" digital back from Red. I so miss view cameras. Since digital makes so much sense now and as film becomes more difficult to get, I miss shooting larger formats. How cool would it be to be able to have a manageable digital 4x5 camera? No need for ground glass with a LCD/LED screen on the back like the 6x17. Toyo, Linhof, whatever. So many great cameras and lenses out there being neglected.

Anyway, just spitballing. Don't take me any more seriously than usual:-)

Contax, while absolutely gorgeous, is still only 6x4.5, which Red already have planned. Leica is even smaller. I'm talking 6x7 here. Stills.

Obviously a 4k crash cam would cost a whole lot more than a GoPro but so long as it was small and light and rugged, I reckon it would still sell. Just to be able to strap something to a helmet or a quadcopter that could cut in with 4 or 5k A cams would be SWEEET.

I know, I know, I just have a soft spot for the Contax. It was, for its time, a perfect camera system. I'd love so much for someone to breathe life back into it.

I also love the idea of a 4x5 technical camera like the Linthoff (sp?) series I used to use when I was just starting out.

A low-light GoPro would be sweet too. The GoPros are next to useless when the sun goes down.

You're talking to me David. I was a very early owner of Contax RTS. MAN! What a system! My very first SLR as a teenager was a Yashica so I was already halfway there. In my early twenties I worked at a pro lab. First roll of trannies I dropped in the guys from E6 came in to ask me what I was shooting on - the images jumped out at them from the mass of stuff they were processing.

Yes please.Jim,at some point down the line i hope you will consider something like this..

I'd like to see RED evolved into a completely integrated company so that they don't have to rely on other manufacturers at all.

It would also be nice to be able to buy stock in the company....

But then that would be perfect and who the hell wants perfect? Crazy right?

Yes. Yes. I have a pretty complete Contax 645 system that I still drag out now and then. I think it's lenses are some of the best Zeiss ever produced. The 120mm macro is just stupid good. But the whole system just feels good in my hands, the viewing screens are beautiful to compose on. I just can't justify $30k for a full frame digi back. It'd be like an expensive lover you keep, but can't bring to the show.

I've never felt that any motion camera was that perfectly put together. The ones I loved to handle had technical shortcomings of various kinds. I'm really hoping that Epic is that for motion. I've had one in my hands once, and I think the possibility is there.

+3!! Big plus with the GoPro style cam. That would be amazing. I can't stand my $600 POV HD. I'd pay $1500 for a rugged little "Red Quantum"..

My wife is a Wall St. wench, just quit to run her own hedge fund. I still say what I first told her 4 years ago... if these guys ever sell stock or bonds, buy everything you can lay your hands on!

I seriously hope Red does not go public. Can you imagine any public company doing the things we love about Red? Not answering to shareholders has a lot of benefits.

Helping to derail my own thread but I have to agree with David. The day that happens is the first day of the slide.

...I would go for Leica...

Me too, I love Leica. But I was shocked when I found that Leica sold over $350 million in it's last fiscal year. They are not huge, but def not as small as I thought and certainly not east to "buy" ...

Me too. Agree 100%. But I can't imagine Jim ever conceding power to a board or shareholders. This is HIS ship, and he's a pretty darn good job so far .... Red doesn't need to change a thing, except get more cameras and accs out the door.
