Hi we are thinking about purchasing a Red one (non-mx), we currently have it and are testing it. The Hard Drive is acting up. When I first power on the camera I get the error message: "The CF card has not been Speed Verified for use on this camera. Only 2k resolution recordings are possible. There is an unquantifiable risk of drop frames." When I put the camera into 4k on the LCD screen I see : "Record Error: FRMRATE_TOOHIGH" Also the back of the camera says "Slow Media" I had the frame rate set at 23.98. I took the drive and formatted it inside the camera, and still had issues. So I pulled it out and formatted it in my Mac Pro, then took it back into the RED and formatted it again. Still nothing. I am able to shoot 2k, but not 4k. The camera is set for REDCODE 28. I could use any help I can get. Thanks!! I have attached pictures of the error messages. Thanks again.

contact red support. sounds like you need to get this whole setup checked out before you commit to purchasing it. better yet, i would just hold off and get an epic. rent in the meantime.

Maybe I'm not reading the original post correctly, but I'm unclear on if you're using a Compact Flash card to record with, or if you're using a 320GB or 640GB Red Drive. If you're using a Compact Flash card, and it's not a RED brand CF card, the camera will refuse to record at higher resolutions than 2K. Camera can't use generic CF cards to record at 4K resolution, my recollection is that you get messages a lot like what you're seeing if you put in a SanDisk or Lexar CF card and try to record.

If you're using a RED CF card or RED Drive, disregard this post, and contact the current owner or RED support :)

Im using the Red Drive I believe its a 1 TB

I think they had the drive replaced to a 1 TB. Also I just tried the 8gb RED compact flashes and they wont show up in the camera. The camera cant seem to read them. Its almost acting as if the reader on the actual camera is damaged or something.

1 tb red drives don't exist. there are only 320 gb and 640 gb. what firmware is the camera on? i think there's something fishy going on, and you should do some more research before committing.

My guess you have both a non-Red CF card in the side CF module and the Red drive connected at the same time. The camera can only see one type of media at a time. Turn the camera off, take out any CF media and try the drive again.

Or get the seller round to talk you through it, as you seem quite new to the Red.

Its definitely a RED 8gb CF card. I have tried all 3 of the ones that were in the bag. I have also unplugged the RED drive and booted it up with the CF card in it. The CF cards still wont show up. When I took the RED Drive (not the CF) to the computer in the system utilities it said 1 TB OEM on it.

Call Red support. If the drive is 1TB, it has been modified and will not work properly with the camera. This makes me suspect that the CF cards may also not be right (as in counterfeit). Or the CF reader could have a problem.

Red has a recertification program, where they thoroughly check the camera and provide a short warranty. If I were you, I'd have the seller ship the camera to Red, and when certification passes, purchase the camera. You pay for the certification, the seller pays for any necessary repairs.

I believe the CF reader has a problem.

If you're borrowing/testing the camera, I would return it to where it came from and tell them they need to address these issues. Something is definitely not right. However, I think all we can do is guess at what could be going on here. You can't test a camera and media that don't work properly, therefore you're not going to buy it in this condition.

Speaking of guessing, I have a theory or two myself and the theories I'm coming up with are unqualified service performed on the camera and/or tampering with the camera or media for one reason or another.

Apparently I just found out, they replaced the hard drive but it doesn't have a raid firmware on it that allows it to record 4k. The CF Module doesn't work anymore because they bent a pin.
