  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Don't upgrade to 10.6.8... CUDA broken

When I heard the new that FCPX was in development and that it would be awesome I kinda figured it would be the time for me to change into a Mac workflow.
Then it came out and I realized it was shit so I gave up on that idea. But I still think of switching to a Mac hardware base for Avid and Premiere Pro...

Now I'm not so sure again... maybe I should stick with my PC workflow, at least it never failed me.
If your happy why change? Years ago we were poised to drop Macs but reading up on the probs on the PC side for Avid, we stuck it out. If its cost-effective for you to stay on Windows why bother moving.

I'm curious to what those problems on the PC-side of Avid is?
I like OSX and the connectivity that Mac has, that was why I wanted to change. I still do, on the laptop end, but I would never change my horsepower station from a PC.

Well that was eons ago (2004). Im sure some of the issues have been fixed or something. It would have made sense then cause the brunt of my work was on Maya using BOXX and Dell workstations. So a PC version was thought off at the time.
Now it doesnt make sense since were heavily invested in Mac gear. No problems so far :)
Well except last year Avid was useless for a few months due to "Hagrid/SWDC" errors.
Were done with that so no need to bring up cold crap :P

Update (temporary solution):

"Here's a direct link to the March driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-...v7-driver.html

If you need to roll back, you have to manually install each package as the installer will say "No Driver Update Needed" ... Here's how:

1. Open the package in Finder (right click and "Show Package Contents")
2. There will be 3 packages inside, Display, Driver and Opengl, install each of them reboot.

Visit the Nvidia thread http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=203839 for more info. I'd also like to encourage anyone who sees a similar performance hit to post their findings both here at Adobe and on Nvidia's site. I'd test more, got to get back to real work for now. Hope this helps everyone out so we can all get back up and running." --- BC http://forums.adobe.com/message/3765129#3765129

Thanks Andrae, great tip :)

Eric, Dave will let us know how valid the cuda on MacBook Pro after he checks with the Cuda guru at Adobe. He is concerned about the band width of the bus.
